My name is Sakamoto, and I work in the sales department of the marketing department.
We have redesigned over 300 websites to date.
We often hear unfortunate stories of clients who have invested a lot of passion and money into a project only to end up with an unsatisfactory outcome. We have also had cases where Monosus has joined a project midway through that had fallen significantly behind schedule and helped get it back on track.
Through these many projects, we have come to realize that there are common threads between successful and unsuccessful projects.
In this section, I would like to share with you the rules for success and failure.
It's all the same?
The person who orders and the person who makes it.
Who holds the key to the success of a renewal project: the company or the web production company?
Of course, the responsibility for the production part lies with us, the web production company that undertakes it, but in fact, the probability of a project's success can be dramatically increased by the clients who place the order paying a little attention and being aware of things.
We want you to know that keeping in mind perspectives such as "How can we smoothly communicate what we want to do to a web production company, which has a completely different culture?", "How can we discover the seeds of trouble as early as possible while they are still small?", and "How can we smoothly coordinate between departments?" can make a big difference in the success or failure of a project.
Must be overcome before renewal begins
Five Hurdles
In the first episode, we will talk about five hurdles to overcome before a renewal project can "get started."
Considering that the average span of a website renewal is 5 to 6 years, there are probably many people in charge who have no experience with renewal, but there are various hurdles that must be overcome before starting the project. Let's take a look at five case studies.
First of all, I don’t know what to improve
- I have no experience with renovating a site and I am usually mainly involved in operations, so when it comes time to renovate the site, I don't know how to improve it.
- I understand that they want to improve on the operational side, but I don't know what each department that will be affected by the site renewal wants to do.
2. Unable to reach a consensus within the company regarding renewal
- The superior with the decision-making authority does not understand the importance of the renewal, and the decision is not approved.
- In organizations with many products, various departments are involved in the website, and opinions are divided among them, making it difficult to reach a consensus.
3. The purpose and goal of the renewal cannot be decided
- My boss always asks me questions like, "Why are you doing this?", "What are your goals? How will you measure the results?", but a renewal is a project that affects the entire company, and it is difficult for a single person to decide on the goals.
- First of all, we don't even know what the indicators are for a successful renewal. Also, it is extremely difficult to standardize the indicators and unify the understanding throughout the company.
4. Requirements and budget cannot be determined
- In order to proceed with the renewal project within the company, we need to create a budget, but we have no idea what to do, how much it will cost, etc.
- In order to create a budget, I asked a familiar web production company for an estimate, but they said they couldn't give me an estimate unless they knew the requirements, and I didn't know what to do.
5. I don’t know who to talk to
- Even if you have problems like the ones above, you don't know who to talk to or how to proceed.
- I've thought about it in my own way, but when I bring it up to my boss, he says things like, "I don't really understand," or "What do other companies do?" and I'm at a loss.
What did you think?
Once these hurdles have been cleared, the project can finally begin.
It seems like it's just as difficult for the people placing the order as it is for the people making it.
But there is a way to get through it!
For company personnel who have been entrusted with the task of creating a corporate website, which is the face of their company, I would like to share with you the wisdom of the ordering party that is necessary to fulfill this responsibility.
Next time, we will introduce the "Request for Proposal", which determines the success or failure of the renovation.
