"Into the Light" is a video capturing the light overflowing in Hakone
Kanagawa Tourism Video Contest Winner

Designer Kawarasaki has been collecting equipment and visiting various places to create video works over the past few years. The Monosasu website has also introduced promotional videos for leather craftsmen and bakeries that Kawarasaki has composed, filmed, and edited.

The video that Kawarazaki made during his visit to Hakone won an honorable mention in the Kanagawa Tourism Video Contest ! Congratulations!

First of all, please take a look at the winning works.

It's amazing that the things I've been studying diligently on my own are being recognized by those around me!

So, here we introduce you to the behind-the-scenes story of the production that we asked Kawarazaki about.

- What inspired you to create this work?

One day, I found a poster for this contest at the nearest station. The content was "1-minute travel video enjoying sightseeing around the Odakyu Line." My wife and I had just been talking about going on a trip to Hakone, so I thought I'd combine that with the trip and enter the contest, and we decided to make one.

- What were you thinking about when you made this?

The world is currently in a gloomy situation, so I created a video with the theme of "light" found in Hakone, so that once this has passed, viewers will feel a little more cheerful and want to travel.

Hakone has many facilities and objects that shine with light, such as the Hakone Glass Museum and the stained glass at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, so I thought it was a location that suited the theme well.
However, when making a video work like this, it is common to plan the composition using storyboards and then start shooting. However, this time the main focus was on enjoying the trip, so I didn't think too much about the composition in advance and just captured the impressive light of Hakone on camera wherever we went.

And because we were limited to a one-minute video, we tried to pack in information at a good pace, in time with the music, so that viewers wouldn't get bored until the very end.

Also, the gaze and facial expressions of the people are important in creating the flow of the video, but the wife who was our model basically didn't want her face to be shown, so we were conscious of how to show the flow without showing her face, by showing close-ups of her feet or her back. There were no particular difficulties in creating the video, but when we were riding the gondola on the way to Owakudani, the wind was blowing really hard, and we got motion sickness from the shaking!

- How do you feel about winning?

I received a hotel accommodation voucher in Hakone as a prize in the contest, so I'll be taking another trip to Hakone before the end of the year!

- Is there anything you'd like to photograph or try in the future?

I like shooting tourism videos like this one, but I also want to make videos that focus on people.
Like Shiomi and Fujisaki , who were previously featured on the Monosasu website, I would like to express through video the skills and passion that only each craftsman possesses.

I would also like to create a video together with the Monosus members.
We could make a video for someone's personal project, and another member could be in charge of the background music. I think it would be interesting if video production could help our company members discover something new and revitalize internal communication.

It appears that discussions are already underway with the members about making a video.

Kawarazaki's YouTube page is steadily updating with new videos. Please have a look if you are interested.

How to create good blood circulation with members and other people involved? How can we deepen our relationships to do better work? While thinking about this, we introduce the people and work of Monosus. The secretariat has approximately five members. I love eating a lot.
