Hello, this is Gotanda from the Creative Department Operations Team.
What does the operations team do?
Occasionally, I get asked similar questions by people in other departments within the company.
What kind of operations projects can people from other companies request?
You may be thinking, "Well, that's not the case."
I myself had wondered what exactly an operational project entailed, until I was assigned to the operational team. Moreover, even when I looked around other companies, I had never heard of a company that specialized in operational projects.
In a previous article I wrote about what operations are , but this time I would like to introduce what the operations team actually does.
I hope that after reading this article, you will be able to get an idea of how it works.
A wide variety of "operation" projects across a wide range of industries
Currently, the operations team is handling approximately 15 operations.
The industries involved are diverse, including cosmetics e-commerce sites, food manufacturers, industrial manufacturers, credit-related, insurance-related, and government-related.
I can't judge whether the number is large or small, but even I'm surprised at how many websites they have in such a diverse range of industries.
The operations team responsible for such a diverse range of projects consists of 16 people.
Each of us is involved in direction, planning, design, and coding, and the number of people involved in a project varies depending on the scale of the project.
There are often multiple projects moving at the same time, and some projects only move a few times a year.
The "operation" of websites comes in all sizes and the content of the work varies depending on the project.
What exactly are we doing? I would like to introduce four operational projects.
(※We regret that we will refrain from mentioning the company name.)
1. An EC site for a certain cosmetics company

[Operation Overview]
I am responsible for creating the landing pages for the monthly campaigns, PC and smartphone sites, creating HTML email newsletters for end users, and even updating the product database using our own CMS.
[Work content]
- Landing page creation (wireframe, design, coding)
- Banner Creation
- Email newsletter creation
- CMS Registration
- Product registration (image processing, product list creation, CMS registration work)
[Team Structure]
- 1 Director
- 1 planner
- Designers: 1-3
- Coder 1-3 people
[Update frequency]
Monthly (there is a set update date each month, and the production process takes about three weeks)
[Operation period]
March 2014 - Present (about 3 years)

Operational points!
Because it is a site that deals with cosmetics, we have a team of up to three designers, including planners, to create designs and catchy slogans that resonate with women. We are also improving the flow of information on the site so that when users think, "I want to try it" or "I want to buy it," they immediately make a purchase.
Updates are posted once a month, but because the content is quite voluminous, we carefully manage the schedule to ensure that the updates are posted on the release date.
From planning to proposing improvements to the website in general, we strive to provide detailed operations to ensure that the site has high usability for the target demographic (women).
2. A website related to a certain credit card company

[Operation Overview]
We create landing pages (PC/smartphone) for special features that are implemented periodically. We are also in charge of checking the submitted materials (affiliates, etc.) to be published on the pages, and provide appropriate and detailed information.
[Work content]
- Check submission
- Banner Creation
- LP creation (wiring, design, coding)
- CMS Registration
[Team Structure]
- 1 Director
- 1 designer
- 1 coder
- Checkers 1 person
[Update frequency]
Whenever there is a feature (production process takes around 3 weeks)
[Operation period]
December 2014 to present (about 2 years and 3 months)

Operational points!
Updates are not frequent as they are made for each special feature, but we need to create five sites (10 pages for PC and SP) for one feature, and we also need to wait for cooperation with affiliated companies to submit materials, so quick and accurate coding skills are required.
In addition, because this is a site that deals with affiliate marketing, we pay attention to even the smallest details and have a thorough system in place that not only involves self-checking but also checking by professional checkers to avoid any mistakes.
3. A certain confectionery manufacturer's website

【overview】
I am in charge of updating the brand page and updating and creating new product pages. I also take photos of new products and update social media (Facebook) to quickly provide the latest information on new product trends.
[Work content]
- Product photography
- Banner Creation
- Page updates (design, coding)
- CMS registration (Movable Type)
- SNS updates and management
[Team Structure]
- 1 Director
- 1 planner
- 1 designer
- 1 coder
[Update frequency]
Updated with each new product release
[Operation period]
April 2012 to present (about 4 years and 11 months)

Operational points!
This is a website for a certain confectionery manufacturer, so I'm looking forward to this project because I will be involved in creating content to coincide with the launch of a new product. When photographing new products, the members of the team brainstorm ideas for camerawork themes that match the products, and we are constantly working to convey the deliciousness and fun of the products to users.
It's a snack that's very familiar to us, so when we see the products photographed in supermarkets and convenience stores, we can't help but feel happy.
4. A website for a financial company

【overview】
I am in charge of both the end-user and agency websites.
In response to changes in our services, we are creating new pages and making edits to text and images.
[Work content]
- design
- coding
- Unique CMS operation
- CMS registration (Movable Type)
- Adobe Target
- Google Tag Manager
[Team Structure]
- 2 Directors
- 1 designer
- Coder 1-3 people
[Update frequency]
Almost every day
[Operation period]
October 2012 to present (about 2 years and 5 months)

Operational points!
Of all the projects we are managing, this is the one with the largest number of pages and multiple related sites. We are working almost every day at full capacity on the production, from minor text updates to creating large volumes of content. Using a variety of tools, we are also conscious of SEO measures and have a team of up to three coders working to create a site that provides the highest level of satisfaction.
Since I am in charge of a wide range of pages, I constantly need to adopt new tools and update them, but this also gives me the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience, which is what makes this project so rewarding.
summary
When I look at the operations projects in this way, I realize once again that I come into contact with websites from a variety of industries on a daily basis.
Unlike new projects, I think that operating a website together with a client over a long period of time is not just about updating the website, but also about being in the client's shoes, "being an insider." By seeing things from the client's perspective, position, and feelings, you can sometimes notice things that you would not have noticed if you had simply updated the website before.
I believe that by sharing these insights, it will be an opportunity for our customers who work with us in managing their websites to become aware of things they may not have noticed before, and as a result, they will be able to operate higher quality websites.
From small things to big things, using various tools to continue to send out information almost every day from proposal to production to publication is what makes project management rewarding. There is no end to management.
If you are having trouble with your website operations, please feel free to contact our operations team. We will do our best to help you operate your website better!
