The investment team's path forward in 2017

Hello, this is Dojo from the Creative Department Operations Team.
Since this is a January post, I would like to talk about the operations team's goals for 2017.

The operation team's goals and current status

The operations team's goal for 2017 is to strengthen the PDCA cycle by implementing and measuring website improvement measures.

Currently, the operations team is mainly responsible for regularly revising the website's wording, updating news, creating new product pages, and creating special feature pages.
When we receive requests from our clients, we don't just focus on superficial aspects such as "I want it to look like this" or "I want to create a special feature page with this kind of content," but we also try to understand the original purpose, such as "Why do you want to create this design?" and "What is the aim of the page?", and make suggestions that go a step further.
However, the most important prerequisite for this is to deliver the requested content with high quality by the specified deadline.

To be honest, up until now we have allocated most of our resources to "ensuring quality" and "strictly meeting delivery deadlines," and have not been able to devote enough time to implementing the PDCA cycle for improvement, which is an important aspect of operating a website.

Operation team members working late into the night every day

The mid-level members of the operations team have grown significantly over the past year, and new members are expected to join over the next year, which will increase resources, so we believe that the time issue can be resolved to some extent. However, even if we were able to secure the resources, if there is no demand from customers, we will not be able to implement improvement measures on our own, no matter how many times we think of them.

What is the importance of improving your site?

In the past, customers were often satisfied with simply publishing their website, and updates after publication were limited to updating the information.
If the company is not considering generating responses based on its website, it tends to position the website solely as a means to disclose information and not place much importance on the website itself, so our suggestions for improvement often do not have much impact.

However, although the importance of a website varies from company to company, it must have been launched with some purpose in mind, and we believe that it is extremely important to make repeated improvements in order to achieve that purpose.

As we operate our websites, we often find that there are problems that were not apparent at the time of launch, our initial measures do not work as intended, and what was the latest trend at the time of launch has become outdated technology and design three years later.
With paper media such as books or strap advertisements, once they have been released to the public they can no longer be revised. However, a website is a medium that can be tweaked and improved as many times as you like, so it would be a waste not to make improvements there.

To further improve our website

So, I started thinking about how we can get customers to place more importance on improving their websites, or why website improvement is often overlooked.

One of the reasons for this is that when creating a new website or renovating a website, the operation of the website after it is launched is not taken into consideration.
When creating something new or renewing something, release is inevitably a goal and a milestone.
However, it is important to carefully measure after release whether the measures designed during new production are serving the intended purpose.
If you are satisfied once the plan is released, it becomes unclear whether the goals of the measures you originally designed were achieved.
It's a shame to do everything we can and then not know what happens next, and I can't help but feel like we've lost sight of the original purpose.

Therefore, in order to ensure that the website would remain effective even after it was launched, we felt it was necessary to propose during the initial production stage a PDCA path for improving the site during the operational phase after launch, and to help the client understand the importance of repeated improvement and measurement.
By doing so, you will be able to secure the funds necessary for operation at an early stage, allowing you to implement improvement measures smoothly.

Until now, initial production and operation have often been thought of separately, but going forward, by thinking of the process from initial production to operation as a single path on the same axis, we believe that both initial production and operation will be strengthened and we will be able to create something that is in line with the original purpose.

In 2017, the operations team will continue to focus on the previously important priorities of "ensuring quality" and "strict adherence to delivery deadlines," while strengthening the implementation of website improvement measures in order to further commit to the goals that customers expect from a website.
We look forward to seeing our operations team grow even stronger in 2017.
