Hello. I'm Tatsuta, the head of the marketing department.
Today, we will be presenting project reports introducing the projects that Monosus has worked on so far.
This time we will introduce Eagle Kogyo's corporate website production project.
Eagle Industry provides mechanical seals and various equipment products for a wide range of fields, including automobiles and construction machinery, rotating machinery such as pumps and compressors, and even ships, airplanes, and rockets. It is truly a company that continues to support the global manufacturing industry. Without even realizing it, Eagle Industry's technological capabilities are being utilized in everything from the automobiles you drive to space rockets.
We were in charge of creating the corporate website that was launched on October 1st, 2014, the memorable 50th anniversary of the company's founding.

A globally conscious website
One of the themes of this renewal was to create a website that was conscious of both domestic and international audiences.
Given the business environment in Japan, globalization has become an inescapable trend. This is especially true in the BtoB industry. We have a BtoB team that specializes in BtoB business, and we are receiving a lot of inquiries with globalization in mind.
Generally speaking, global websites tend to take one of two forms:
1) Create multilingual pages with the same structure and design as the Japanese site. 2) Create an independent multilingual site that is not tied to the Japanese site.
Neither is more effective than the other, and the choice should be based on the type of information on the website, the intended target audience, and the production and operation conditions. This time, we chose option 1.
What is a global site?
This is a story from when I was in charge of creating a global website for international students at a certain university.
When planning the university's website, I interviewed eight international students to find out what they thought about the students studying at the university.
"I'm Tatsuta from a web production company. This time, I've been put in charge of creating a global website to disseminate information to overseas audiences. I've heard your stories..."
At the beginning of the interview, I introduced myself and explained the purpose of the interview, but the student from England asked me the following question.
What is a global site?
When I asked, I got the answer that in Europe and the United States, where disseminating information globally is the norm, they don't understand the point of going to the trouble of creating a website specifically for that purpose.
When I actually looked into it, I found that Asian universities, especially Japanese ones, had "global" or "international" options in their navigation. However, the websites of Western universities that are ranked in the top 10 in the world did not have a "global" option.
Of course, in this example, a major factor is whether information can be disseminated in English, a global language.
However, this incident made me think, "We often hear about globalization, but maybe it only really is globalization when it becomes a normal thing."
A new approach to design
Let's get back to the topic of this project.
During a meeting to finalize the design direction for the entire website, the designer said, "If we're going to make this a site with a global outlook, we want to design the English pages first."
As anyone involved in web production will know, when creating a multilingual page, it is common to start with the Japanese version and then add in the English version later.
However, this time, with a global focus in mind, we decided to create it in English from the start and then translate it into Japanese later.
We have adopted a design approach that truly aims to "make globalization the norm."
The effectiveness of this technique became apparent during the first draft of the design.
Thanks to you, it seems that Eagle Industry's website is also popular with people overseas.
Nowadays, it is becoming standard for Monosas to design the main pages in English for sites with a global theme.
We have taken this approach in our web design, but when you come across a theme, it might be interesting to first try to find a way to make it "natural."
