A short chat
What have you bought recently?

Hello. I'm Saito, a checker in charge of quality control.

Working styles have changed dramatically recently. At Monosus, teleworking has become the norm.
Until now, during office work, we could casually chat with colleagues during breaks or lunch. However, with teleworking, it's difficult to have such informal conversations.

Even during this time when everyone is busy working hard, there must be little stories you want to share, like, "This is what happened to me..."
A little break with some casual chat with no particular intention. A little break in between articles on the Monosasu website.
It might be good to have time like that.

So, I decided to create a "take a break" article by asking some small questions that I wanted to share with everyone.

This time, the question was "What have you bought recently?" It's such a simple question, but everyone's personality and way of thinking are different. It was a fascinating time hearing positive stories about shopping.

You can even do it at home. Strength training can be even more rigorous. Checker: Minoru Kawaguchi

Kawaguchi-san has a quiet personality, but a burning passion for the things he loves. As a fellow checker, we often chatted during breaks at work. So, I can somewhat imagine what he's been buying lately...

"Mr. Kawaguchi, what have you bought recently?"

【BODYBOSS】...A convenient item that allows you to perform over 100 different exercises with just one device.

Features: ① Allows for a serious workout, just like at the gym. ② Official videos are available, so even beginners can use it with confidence. ③ Easy to set up and put away (easy to prepare and clean up).
④ Compact and space-saving (when the board is folded): 405mm x 510mm
(Board unfolded): 810mm x 510mm

I never dreamed that the day would come when gyms would have to close. But I couldn't afford to be picky, so I bought this to work out at home.
Actually, it took almost a month for the product to arrive, and by the time I opened it, the gym had reopened. I completely missed the opportunity to use it, and I even considered donating it to Monosus so that people who are lacking exercise could use it... but I thought it would be a waste to just let it go without doing anything with it, so I'm currently using it in conjunction with going to the gym. Just like working from home, I've realized that I can also do strength training at home, and it has broadened my training options for the future. However, even if I can do 100 different strength training exercises at home, I don't see myself choosing not to go to the gym. (From Ms. Kawaguchi)

Kawaguchi-san is well-known within the company for his love of weight training. Everyone must have wondered what he was doing while the gyms were closed, but he didn't give up!

This product is compact, doesn't take up much space, and is said to be incredibly versatile.
When asked about the benefits of continuing to use other facilities even after the gym reopens,

"To train the parts I couldn't fully work out at the gym!"

That feeling is something only someone who faces it every day can understand. It's amazing that you can continue doing something no matter the circumstances!
It looks like I'll be getting less exercise for a while longer, so maybe I should secretly start exercising too...?

A catalyst for expanding enjoyable moments: Designer: Yuna Sawada

Ms. Sawada works at a satellite office in Kamiyama Town, Tokushima Prefecture. When I visit her at the satellite office, she always gives me a tour of Tokushima. I haven't been able to see her much lately, so I contacted her to ask how she's doing.

"What have you bought recently, Sawada-san?"

[Books about alcohol]
Ophélie Neman, "Wine is Fun! (Revised and Expanded Edition) - An Illustrated Guide to Wine" (PIE International)
Mikael Guido, "Whiskey is Fun! - An Illustrated Guide to Whiskey" (PIE International)
ferment books/Misa Ono, "Fermentation is Delicious! A Guide to Fermented Foods Around the World with Illustrations" (PIE International)

I only make one big purchase a year at best, so I mostly buy everyday necessities. Recently, I bought a textbook full of illustrations, like the illustrated history books I loved in high school!

The reason is that, during a period when I had plenty of time but limited options, I found myself cooking for myself again after a long time. When I went grocery shopping, I found myself wandering through every food section of the supermarket by myself more often. That's when I finally noticed how big the alcohol section was, something I had always just walked past. The act of choosing one good bottle from such a wide variety in such a large store! I thought it would be fun if I knew more about it, but my current knowledge is probably not enough to take advantage of it! So I headed straight to a bookstore and bought a book.

As it's a textbook, it not only provides broad categories and explanations of types, but also covers the changes over time since its creation, its background, the characteristics of different countries, and even what "fragrant" actually means—all things that make you think, "Ah, I wanted to know that!" It explains even the technical terms that sound like gibberish in a concise yet comprehensive way.
Normally, I prefer photographs in specialized books, but the illustrations are just right. They're simple and easy to understand, and they even include interesting anecdotes, making me think "Wow!" and "Hmm!" I wanted to learn the good points in a casual, conversational way. If your motivation is casual, this book is perfect for those who struggle with the introduction or find the scope too broad! (There are also other books in the series on coffee, beer, and cocktails!) (From Ms. Sawada)

I was impressed to see that the alcohol section had expanded! It makes sense, since people are drinking at home more often these days.
It's so typical of Ms. Sawada to be curious about things that pique her interest and pursue them to the fullest. I can understand the feeling of suddenly encountering something you want to know and enjoy and heading to a bookstore. Apparently, this book is perfect for people who have a bit of a collecting urge or who want to make it a long-term hobby.

The books are so colorful and cute! I wish school textbooks were like this; it would have been so much more fun.

"I recently learned that orange wine and yellow wine exist, and I'd really like to try them," she said.
(Apparently, even though it's called orange wine, it's made using white grapes and the same methods as red wine.)

Sawada seemed excited about the prospect of enjoying a book and then having a drink.
I'd love to learn a lot from you all when we can finally have a drink together!

I casually struck up conversations with three people this time, and it was more interesting than I expected to hear about things that hadn't changed since before the self-isolation period, things that had been adapted to the restrictions, and things that had been discovered specifically because of this time.
It might be something I don't need to know, but somehow I felt relieved knowing that we didn't have to meet face-to-face.
We'll save the rest for when we meet again and chat.

By the way, the thing I recently bought is a three-tiered picnic lunch box. I just couldn't resist because I imagined how happy I'd be if I filled it with lots of delicious food and went out.

See you again!
