"That's why we print." Connects the thoughts of our employees.
Towards a website that creates synergy
~Interview with Nikkei Printing Co., Ltd.~

Hello. This is the Monosus BtoB team. We are always working on proposing the creation and operation of websites for BtoB companies. As part of our activities, we conduct interviews with the people in charge of the renewal of the companies we have worked on to look back on the projects.

Our partner this time was Nikkei Printing Co., Ltd. , which completed the renewal of its corporate website in September this year. They are a comprehensive printing company that provides one-stop services from planning and design to printing, processing and shipping.

The project's director, Oyabuchi, and salesperson, Sakamoto, spoke with Ueno and Okawara from Nikkei Printing about the background to the renewal, behind-the-scenes stories from the production, and the changes that have occurred since the project's release.

A catchphrase that gave me an idea of the finished product

Sakamoto: First, I'd like to ask you about what prompted the renewal. How did the talks start?

Okawara: The last time we renewed the site was in January 2012, so after five years, the design and information were outdated. With the announcement from Google, I felt that we had to make the site "smartphone compatible" as the person in charge of creating the website.

Sakamoto : Mobile First Index (※).
* A measure that uses smartphone sites, rather than PC sites, as the basis for page evaluation when determining the ranking of Google search results.

Okawara: Yes. We wanted to make sure we didn't miss out on that opportunity. It wasn't something we could do on our own, so we decided to reach out to a few companies. We had interviewed Monosus before, and we knew they were focusing on corporate websites, so we reached out to them.

Sakamoto : I imagine each company came up with proposals for a variety of different directions.

Ueno: That's true. But Monosus' proposal was overwhelmingly overwhelming.
Among the proposals that showed strength in the video field and the availability of sufficient resources, Monosus's content was the easiest to imagine.

Of course, we make our decision based on a comprehensive assessment, but we also had the tagline "That's why we print," which made it easy for us to visualize what the renewal would look like.

After all, it's difficult to explain to people in the company something that you don't empathize with yourself. It has to be something close to your own feelings and image. In that sense, I think we were on the same page.

Okawara-san , in addition to your in-depth suggestions regarding the content, as a production side we also placed importance on the cleanliness of the coding source.

"There was no sense of insecurity."

Sakamoto: I'd like to take a moment to look back on what happened since production began.

At the beginning, Ueno-san came to meet with us on a weekly basis, so I didn't feel anxious. I thought that with Monosus's scale, we wouldn't have many face-to-face meetings. It was good that we were able to set aside time at the early stages of the project to work out the finer details.

The schedule was well laid out, and they would ask me to do this by this date, so I was able to get through the parts that I tend to forget without any problems, thanks to their encouragement (laughs).

Mr. Okawara: The original website had a lot of pages, so we had to carry over and use many of the existing pages. We also discussed how to divide up the work. They provided us with a production template, which made the process go smoothly.

Sakamoto: What about the source code that you were concerned about?

Okawara-san updates the site in-house from time to time, and there are no particular problems.

The photos provided by Oyabu Nikkei Printing were very good, which was a great help. All the photos were of very high quality, and it seemed like the designers had a lot of fun designing them (laughs). Photos are really important on a website, so that was a great help.

As for the photos, Ueno-san introduced us to a professional photographer. They were very well received within the company. I think the high-quality photos and Monosus' designs matched perfectly.

Content creation that puts people at the forefront

Oyabu: With this renewal, we decided to "put people at the forefront," so it was good to be able to hear the "particularities" of various employees in their own words. I think it has become a good, persuasive piece of content.

Sakamoto: I felt like the plan flowed well from the beginning. I brought in everything from the initial proposal to the catchphrase, and I felt that we were able to create something that properly followed what we had discussed within the company, that we thought should be the message on the top page.

Oyabu: It was like the content was catching up with the catchphrase "That's why we print." The manuscripts and photos were created based on that copy. As I watched the employees' commitment to "That's why we print" take shape, I felt a sense of accomplishment, like "Ah, great things are being produced one after another."

Ueno: Actually, initially, there were opinions within the company that we should only publish what Nikkei Printing can do and project stories. However, just highlighting our facilities and technical capabilities would not give customers a sense of security. I thought that by showing the attention to detail that our employees put into printed materials in the content, we could convey something. I explained this idea several times within the company, and we were finally able to get their approval.

A place where we can clearly communicate the company's vision

Sakamoto
Since relaunching your website, have you received any reactions from both inside and outside the company?

Okawara: For now, we've seen a slight increase in traffic from outside the company. Because it's not a BtoC site, the increase isn't dramatic, but for now, I think it's moving in a positive direction.

Ueno: Some people thought that the main focus of the content was on people, which made it seem like a recruitment site, but I think that it also appeals to students who look at the corporate site, saying, "This is a company where you can work with peace of mind because it has people like this." It would be great if it could create a synergistic effect not only for customers, but also in terms of recruitment.

Right now, we are also working on revising our company profile booklet. Until now, our company profile has focused on hard aspects, with many photos of buildings and printing machines, but this time we are thinking of making it a simple summary of only the necessary information about "the people and the company."

Sakamoto
I'm glad that the website renewal seems to have had an impact in many ways. I'm also looking forward to seeing the effect it will have on recruitment.

Okawara: As someone who is involved with the web in the company, I hope that this will encourage more people to become interested in building and operating websites. From now on, I would like to hand over the work to younger people.

Mr. Ueno: With the merger with the Japan Sohatsu Group, our company will also change. Differentiation from other companies will become increasingly necessary, so I hope that the new website will be a place to clearly communicate our branding and the way our company is. In the future, I would like to increase our know-how, such as communicating the company's color and direction in real time, so that it can be used in sales activities at customers' locations.
