Creative work for events that combine technology and art to offer an experience of the latest culture.

Summary
DIG SHIBUYA is an event that combines technology and art to offer an experience of cutting-edge culture. It was first held in January 2024, organized by the SHIBUYA CREATIVE TECH Executive Committee, the Japan Arts Council, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and co-organized by Shibuya Ward. DIG SHIBUYA 2025, its second year, was based on the concept of "Shibuya as a whole, experimenting with ART x TECH," and featured 33 programs by more than 250 artists, including drone shows and giant installations. The total number of visitors during the four-day event also increased in scale to 450,000. Monosus was in charge of all creative aspects of DIG SHIBUYA, following on from 2024. They designed the logo, website, street vision video advertisements, posters, and signage used on the day of the event.
Issue
Shibuya, with its many movie theaters, live music venues and clubs, art museums and theaters, is a hub for culture. DIG SHIBUYA was launched with the aim of making Shibuya an even more attractive city, while leveraging these characteristics of the area. February, a quiet month, was chosen as the event's timing, and the venues were arranged to encourage visitors to explore the entire city. One of the goals was to bring people back to places that are most characteristic of Shibuya, such as live music venues and clubs, which had been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The creative team, comprised of members from Monosus's cross-domain design team, was involved in the production from both a design and technology perspective, expressing the concept of DIG SHIBUYA and organizing information to enhance visitor movement.
Plan & Output
The role of the Monosus members was to understand the vision of the SHIBUYA CREATIVE TECH Executive Committee and transform it into a form that could be communicated more widely. They created the website while accurately organizing and implementing the vast amount of information, including participating artists and venues, which were updated regularly, and simultaneously worked on leaflets. In addition, for the production of digital signage videos, they commissioned artists while also having Monosus team members create and present their own works.
Leveraging their strengths gained from various projects in the design and art fields, the team members also collaborated with designers and artists. They welcomed Taeko Isu as creative director and commissioned artists to create videos for digital signage. Furthermore, the team members themselves participated in DIG SHIBUYA as artists, exhibiting their respective video works at "Shibuya Crossing Night Art," an event that takes over the large screen at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing with art from midnight to 1am.
Result
DIG SHIBUYA 2025 saw a significant increase in participating artists and programs, and the venue expanded throughout Shibuya. The creative team utilized a variety of media, including websites, digital signage, and print media, to update and disseminate information, contributing to increased visitor engagement. Furthermore, by going beyond their assigned roles and collaborating within the team, they succeeded in improving the overall quality of the project. DIG SHIBUYA 2026 has also been confirmed. As the event enters its third year, the creative team will continue to strive to reach even more people with this event that is expected to expand even further.
