Creating Comfort
~ Akane Saito's Kamiyama Monosasu School, 3rd month ~

Changing things are measured by the school

In Kamiyama Town, the days have been slightly warm, but the mornings and evenings are starting to get much chillier.
Recently, at Monosasu Juku, which is held in Kamiyama Town, Tokushima Prefecture, the teaching role was handed over from Ito of the Coding Factory Club to Maruyama.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Ito!" The students from Monosasu Juku presented him with a beautiful colored paper and a massage cushion. The students prepared gifts even while they were busy with assignments and exams. Although it was a short time, a friendly farewell party was held.

"I need to get in quick!" says Ito, looking very happy.

The lesson with "Mr. Ito" ended with a surprise assignment and thorough feedback to each student. The fact that the students said "I want to come again!" is proof that the lesson was taught with enthusiasm. I think it was a meaningful time created by the instructor and the students.

Now that we have completed the lessons on the overview of the web and the basics of coding, we will move on to learning about coding in accordance with coding guidelines and responsive design.

Welcome Professor Maruyama

Professor Maruyama, who will be in charge of group work, written exams, and graduation exercises, has just come to Kamiyama. I was invited to a New Year's party hosted by the Kamiyama School staff, so I went right away. I'm sure Professor Maruyama was surprised by the large number of people who welcomed me, even though I was already familiar with the people there and they had been very helpful to me.

Maruyama greets everyone in the town. He's getting a lot of attention!

Kamiyama Juku at Relation Co., Ltd., WEEK Juku at the accommodation facility "WEEK," and Engawa Juku at the satellite office "Engawa Office." It was an opportunity for people who are working hard at their training at each company to gather, and also a place to talk with people from the town and those who are visiting on inspection tours.
The students who came to Kamiyama are of various ages, origins, and backgrounds. The local people welcomed us warmly, so we had endless conversations about overseas, the town, and what it was that brought us here.

A homemade New Year's party with potluck and cooking on the spot at a local store. This is similar to Monosus' parties and year-end parties, and I'm grateful to those who create a comfortable space where everyone can enjoy themselves.

Living with fire

I currently live in an old house that has been renovated almost entirely by hand.
This is an unknown world of wood stoves and living in a Goemon bath.
First, we were shown how to start a fire in the bath. We started with small firewood, gradually increasing it to larger pieces, and used the embers to keep the fire warm.

The resident calico cat is also watching.

The bottom is hot, so you'll need to lay a wooden slatted floor before getting in.

Split the firewood so it's easier to start a fire.
One blade is inserted along the grain of the wood using the pendulum principle, and then force is applied to split it.
The difficult part is whether the first blade hits the intended spot.

When it cracks, it feels good to watch and to do it.

There were days when I didn't use the stove in the kitchen.

Recently, we have been able to keep the fire going by adding firewood continuously. Someone is always watching over the fire for those who come back.

It was a new experience for me, but I'm sure this will become a normal part of my daily life.
I spend my time feeling grateful once again for the human touch that is visible within sight to make our lives comfortable.
Not everyone in Kamiyama lives like this.
However, my current time-consuming lifestyle has led me to re-examine some areas that I had been vague about and tended to neglect.

Natural heating

You can also use the garden on the premises on sunny days off. It's warm enough without using any resources.

A garden where you can spend time with care

Members who live here often work on computers, so it's great to have access to the internet wherever you are. Even in the countryside, you can talk and study online.
I hope that one day we can hold coding study sessions here as well.

Lunch party too

No matter what environment you work and live in, you can turn the advantages and disadvantages into a comfortable experience depending on how you think and interact with those around you.
Living in Kamiyama has forced me to think again about what I can do in my work and life in Tokyo.

To that end, I would like to actively embrace anything that can be passed on and preserved.
