Welcome to Kamiyama Monosasu Juku, Introducing the new graduates

2016.04.18 | TOPICS | CULTURE

Hello. I am Akane Saito, a checker and graduate of Kamiyama Monosasu Juku.
For the purpose of cultivating "human resources capable of HTML coding," Monosas conducted employment-based vocational training for five months from November last year in Kamiyama Town, Tokushima Prefecture, as a contractor for the Regional Revitalization Human Resource Development Project. The program is commonly known as "Monosasu Juku."
Of the members who graduated on March 31, six joined the company in April. First, they all came to Tokyo from Tokushima to train at the Tokyo head office.

This time, we would like to introduce the new graduates and new members of Monosasu Juku.

Member Introduction

Ryuma Ohara

Department : Coding Factory Department (Coder)
Birthplace : Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture
Reasons for joining Monosasusu Juku :
I wanted to learn about coding.
Things I enjoyed at Monosasusu Juku :
The fact that several people came up with a project and carried it out.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
There was a time when the other students at the school were steadily improving, but I was struggling to make progress.
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
My laundry never dried, so I had to drive to the laundromat in town every weekend.
Future ambitions :
As I continue to learn every day, I would like to continue to input and output and develop my own unique style as a coder.

A word from Saito: He is knowledgeable and ambitious, and is someone everyone can rely on, but he always makes people laugh with his conversations. My personal favorite is when he said that his child, who was only a few months old, looked like he weighed 30kg. It was rude, but it was true.

Hiromasa Sunami

Department : Coding Factory Department (Coder)
Birthplace : Tokushima Prefecture
Previous job : Manufacturing
Reasons for joining Monosasusu Juku :
I decided to learn the basics of HTML and CSS so that I could customize WordPress.
Things I enjoyed at Monosasusu Juku :
In addition to the classes, I also enjoyed group work with other students and experimentally implementing the latest front-end technologies with a group of people in preparation for the graduation exam.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
The first few lessons in jQuery were difficult for me as I didn't really understand them and it felt like I was just repeating what was in a textbook.
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
Although I don't live in Kamiyama, I live in Tokushima Prefecture and it's a place that attracts so much attention from people outside the prefecture. It was a lot of fun to be able to study with people from various prefectures, and I think it will be an asset for the rest of my life.
Future ambitions :
I want to become a front-end engineer who can acquire the knowledge to handle any project with ease and use a variety of the latest technologies.

Although Mr. Sunami has a more gentle demeanor than Saito , he also told us to pursue production with ideas different from everyone else's, and that instead of just studying for the training, since we are in Tokushima, we should see the island and think that it is a great place.

Yuji Komiyama

Department : Coding Factory Department (Coder)
Birthplace : Mitaka City, Tokyo
Reasons for joining Monosasusu Juku :
To become a web designer.
Things I enjoyed at Monosasusu Juku :
Learning to code in a tranquil setting.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
I cooked for myself almost every day. (I also made my own lunch.)
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
Soon after I started the cram school, I had to move due to various circumstances, and when I was having trouble finding a place to move to, I asked Mr. Kane, who was also a student at the cram school, to share a room with me. I was worried that living together would be a constant source of stress, but
"Sure, come on over!"
"I was very happy and I remember thinking, 'I'll do my best in Kamiyama!'"
In the end, I never lived in that house, but it's a fond memory for me.
Future ambitions :
I would like to gain more coding experience and become a web creator who can incorporate difficult expressions and ideas that go beyond that.

Mr. Komiyama, who is more fond of Saito, is like a younger brother. He starts handing out sweets to everyone at around 5:00 pm in the evening. He is a meticulous craftsman, and stayed up all night drawing a girl named Maruyama from "Girls & Panzer" on a colored paper for the instructor, Maruyama.

Kim Dong-Gyu

Department : Coding Factory Department (Coder)
Birthplace : Seoul, South Korea
Previous job : Managing a website for a cram school
Reason for joining Monosasu Juku : To learn more specialized knowledge about web production.
Things I enjoyed at Monosasusu Juku :
Group work, study sessions, hot springs, community coordinators, walks, etc.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
During the weekdays, he lived in a rented house near Monosasu Juku, and only on weekends did he return to his parents' house to see his wife and children, but sometimes he felt lonely thinking about his family.
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
My first ever room share. Three guys living in a really old house.
People who didn't have their own entrance had to go through my room every time they returned to their room. At first, it bothered me a lot and it was a surprise every day, but I got used to it surprisingly quickly.
Future ambitions :
I learned so many things from Mr. Ito and Mr. Maruyama at Monosasu Juku. Based on that, I want to acquire new knowledge, take on new challenges, and become a frontend engineer who can handle any project.

I can hear the sound of him eating a red bean bun (presumably) more than Saito . (Maybe he didn't like spicy food.) Mr. Kane invites everyone to his house to hold "study sessions." It's thanks to these study sessions that I've started to enjoy coding.

Kohei Osaka

Department : Coding Factory Department (Coder)
Birthplace : Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture
Previous job : Systems engineer
Reasons for joining Monosasusu Juku :
I had no experience with web coding, but I felt that since it was the same profession of "writing code," the skills would definitely be useful to me and I would be able to use the experience I had gained up to that point in some way.
What I enjoyed most about Monosasu Juku : Learning coding techniques allowed me to express what I wanted to say, and forming groups with multiple people to incorporate the latest technology through trial and error is a particularly memorable experience.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
At first, I had a hard time applying the techniques I had learned and understanding them well, but once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed going to Monosasu Juku every day.
Also, I hadn't driven in about 11 years since getting my license, so driving on tricky mountain roads and snowy roads without guardrails was quite scary, but I got used to it by the end.
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
I often stayed over at the Kim family's house on weekends, studying with various members until late into the night, or going to the hot springs to chat. I usually spent more time in Kamiyama than in Tokushima during the week.
Future ambitions :
I want to become a coder who can quickly and neatly output whatever comes to mind at any time. I still need a lot of skills to achieve this, so I will work hard every day to gain knowledge, techniques, and experience to become the ideal engineer.

Mr. Osaka, who is more soothing than Saito, is a multi-faceted person who is good at both jokes and tsukkomi. He is always smiling and has a comical way of moving. He gives detailed and specific suggestions on how to improve the approach to classes.

Aya Wada

Department : Production Department (Director)
Birthplace : Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture
Previous job : Junior high school teacher (social studies/Japanese)
Reasons for joining Monosasusu Juku :
I had always wanted to work from anywhere, and I thought that a job related to the web would be possible. However, I had almost no knowledge or skills to do the job, so I decided to join Monosasu Juku.
Things I enjoyed at Monosasusu Juku :
I am now able to create the layout I want. I also attend study sessions. I have met many people in Kamiyama and have made many fun memories.
What was hard about Monosasusuku :
When I first joined Monosas Juku, the layout was messed up and I couldn't fix it easily, and I didn't know how to fix it, so it was hard. During my stay at the Ski Land Hotel, there was a day when the hot water suddenly stopped coming out, and I didn't realize that I had taken a cold shower in the winter, and for the first time in my life, I regretted taking a bath.
Anecdotes from life in Kamiyama :
When I was having trouble finding a place to live in Kamiyama, a local person introduced me to a place, which was very helpful. The house I ended up living in was very spacious, but I liked the 2-tatami room so much that I spent most of my time there. I was scared of the sounds of mice running around and the "clacking" of mice eating when I went to sleep at night. I was taught how to dance at night, I was often allowed to visit a house that was renovated from an old house called Yamauba, I was invited to pick mandarin oranges, and generally I met a lot of people and had a great time.
Future ambitions :
I have been working on a completely different job from what I have done up until now, and I have been doing it with a strong will to try anything. I would like to continue to take on various challenges with this momentum and put into practice the knowledge and skills I have acquired.

A word from Saito: He customized what we learned in class and often showed me, saying, "I tried doing this!" His ideas were interesting and always entertained me. Even when I was having trouble with coding, he was persistent in seeing me through until I solved it, which helped me many times.

The members come from different places, are different ages, and have various backgrounds, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the bonds and toughness they developed during their time in Kamiyama will create chemistry within Monosus in the future.
Even during her time at Monosasu Juku, she always had a smile on her face and seemed excited about the new things she was learning and pursuing every day.
I'm sure I'll be moved when the day comes when I have the opportunity to help check what everyone has created.

We hope you will support these six highly motivated and ambitious individuals.
