What's on display is the "Mushroom Grow Kit," sold by KINOKO SOCIAL CLUB, which allows you to cultivate mushrooms.
Wood ear mushrooms thrive with plenty of water, so someone passing through the kitchen will give them a quick spritz of water.
Conversations like, "Is it okay to harvest this now?" might arise, or someone might notice and harvest it, and it would end up becoming part of their lunch.
Mushrooms were initially a strange presence, but lately they seem to have become quite a familiar part of the kitchen.
