Hello! This is a message from the second batch of students from Kamiyama Monosasu Juku!
Time flies and three months have already passed since I joined the school.
The students who finished their communal living at the Ski Land Hotel at the end of July were as follows:
They are divided into male and female groups and live in a shared house.

We all went to see the Awa Odori dance!
Now that we had each successfully secured an address, we were nearing the halfway point.
Meet people, meet houses, meet towns,
We would like to briefly introduce you to the life of Kamiyama Monosasu Juku students!
This time's Kamiyama Monosasu Juku reporter

Yuna Sawada , second-term student at Monosasu Juku, in charge of Kochi. I'm an apprentice bath heater! I'm an AB blood type who lived as a B blood type until my early 20s. I'm still confused about myself as I approach 30, so I taught myself how to read horoscopes. I came to Kamiyama and am impressed by the versatility of sudachi! I want to be like sudachi too.
What we, the second-year students, are learning
We are having the opportunity to study through an employment-based human resource development program.
The content that students will learn over the next six months to become web designers can be broadly divided into the following three areas.
- Coding courses required for building websites
- Operational knowledge and process management courses
- Writing and Interview Course
This curriculum,
We are inexperienced in the web industry.
Learn from an experienced web production company in Tokyo.
I still feel like I’m enjoying a unique opportunity.

Class scenes. Coding basics, Photoshop, operations, advanced coding... The instructors come to Kamiyama from Tokyo in shifts to teach.
The second half of the course has a different curriculum, including camera classes, lighting classes, and interview classes.
The beginning of life Establishing a base for life
Regarding accommodation after the training camp at Ski Land Hotel,
Each student worked hard to find a home in between their classes and daily life.
Because the stay was only six months, it was difficult to find someone willing to lend their house to students who had never met before, especially considering the cost of repairs.
The men safely headed to Tonomiya, a 600m high mountain, and the women to Agawa, a plum village.
I have decided to move my base of operations.

It takes about 30 minutes by car from Ski Land Hotel to each house.
The house where the men live is uninhabited by anyone around it.
It's an environment with magnificent scenery and abundant resources all to yourself.

Early morning at the palace. The men's residence, at an altitude of 600m, is above the clouds.

The main house of the men's house. When they first met.

The hammock is now hung from a nice beam!
The men are enjoying this environment.
He became proficient in using not only hatchets and sickles, but also lawnmowers and chainsaws.
He took out a broken-down bike from the barn and started using it without even realizing it.

On a pleasant, sunny day at the palace, even the sight of a simple futon hanging out to dry is enough to make you envious.

Remove the sliding doors, hang up the mosquito nets,
We put up a cheap, homemade screen door (but it cannot be opened or closed),
You can choose a fabric for your cushion cover and paint it.
It is heartening to see how their quality of life steadily improves as they pursue daily comfort.

On the day of the meteor shower, we had dinner outside, laid out on banana leaves we had picked up.

We also have sanshin!
I reached out to the people I met in Kamiyama one by one, building relationships,
After learning all sorts of wisdom, their next goal is to hold an outdoor screening using a projector...!
Up until December, every day of my life seems to be packed with content.
People living together
Meanwhile, the women in Agawa live surrounded by many neighbors.
Great location, good condition of the house, appliances included, the desirable thatched roof, veranda, and field!

The location is in the Agawa shopping district, right next to a shrine with a large ginkgo tree.
There were many large sudachi trees in the field, laden with fruit in preparation for the harvest in September.
Everyone was delighted to have a spacious house where all five women could live immediately.
Apparently, the house has been uninhabited for about seven years.
Your family and neighbors will take good care of it.
From the time we were introduced to the house, it was well-cleaned and the grass was mowed.

The main house of the Agawa women's camp.
You naturally feel grateful to have people who take good care of their home.
As we will be taking over this house for the next six months, we all offered our thanks to the local deity, asking for his continued support.
I went around saying hello to my neighbors and successfully became an apprentice Kamiyama resident.

Whenever I meet my neighbors, we naturally start chatting, and each time I learn wisdom for daily life, recipes, and more.
In addition to seasonal vegetables, homemade plum syrup, and shochu with balsam that is effective against insect bites...
I am so happy to receive so many gifts every day.

My house is filled with cute retro tableware that I usually buy as antiques at Furuichi, so my daily meals naturally become lively.
The patterns and thickness of the glass tableware give a sense of era and a sense of luxury...!

When you open the window, the breeze feels nice.
And now the preparations for winter begin.
In fact, the baths in the women's houses are wood-fired baths.
During the summer, I was sweating while making a fire,
Now that the weather has cooled down considerably, heating the bath has become one of my daily pleasures.

I'm getting used to chopping firewood and heating the bath!
A bath heated with firewood doesn't cool down easily and warms you from the inside out, so you'll stay warm all winter long.
If you're not careful, the wood on the roadside will look like firewood.
Do you have any good firewood? Maybe I can use this over there?
My daily perspective has clearly become stronger.
Although they are not like the men who make furniture for their daily comfort,
We installed a Sansui shower in a bathroom that didn't have one before, making bathing more comfortable.
I'd like to make use of my garden now, so I'm currently looking for some herb seedlings.
Now is the time to harvest the sudachi citrus trees. I will take a little at a time and use it in my cooking, and send it to my family.
I am really enjoying it. Gardens are great.
"Web + α"
We wanted to enroll in Monosasu Juku in order to gain knowledge and skills related to the web, but what really drew us to this was the desire to be able to shape our lives with our own hands.

Demolition work for a satellite office. An opportunity to interact with young local carpenters.

Adopt-a-thon activities conducted jointly with other schools. We learned about what adopting means, then went into the forest and actually cut down trees and bamboo. We maintained the forest with our own hands to protect it, and used the wood for our daily lives.
In Kamiyama, you can experience the efforts of regional revitalization firsthand, and you can also develop the wisdom and survival skills needed to live in the countryside.
Living together in Kamiyama like this, students are able to exchange information that they would never have been able to learn on their own, and I feel like my possibilities are expanding.
I'm from Kochi, so I thought I knew what it was like to live in the countryside, but I didn't know that people coming together and expressing their individuality could lead to such productive daily lives.
" Web + α "
How you create your life is up to you to choose.
Give me lots of possibilities
After spending my days as a student at Kamiyama Monosasu School,
Our minds and bodies are being trained!
