The average renewal cycle is 6.4 years.
BtoB Corporate Website Circumstances

I'm Sakamoto from the BtoB team.

I meet with about 100 web managers a year.
There is always one thing you will be asked first.

That is, the "budget and cycle" for web renewal.

"How much will it cost to renovate?"
"How often do other companies renew their products?"

In B2B companies, there are often few horizontal connections.
We are often asked, "What about other companies?"

The two biggest concerns for web managers are "budget" and "cycle."

I have already mentioned the budget in a previous article , so
This time, I would like to answer another question, "renewal cycle," using the information from my interview report.

About the "Corporate Website Operation Status Report"
In 2012, we began interviewing people in charge of website operations and compiling the results into reports. To date, we have collaborated with over 500 companies, and compiled the results of our interviews into a booklet titled "Corporate Website Operations Report," which has been useful to the people at the companies we interviewed.

Surprisingly long! The average renewal cycle is 6.4 years

The results of interviews with B2B companies about the renewal cycle of their corporate websites were as follows:
The average was 6.4 years , which was longer than expected.

This is more than twice the average renewal cycle of BtoC companies, which is said to be three years.
This is influenced by reasons unique to B2B companies.

  • Unlike BtoC, which deals with end users, we cannot afford to allocate such a large budget.
  • Since the business model does not change frequently, there is little need to renew it.

These circumstances also seem to be contributing to the long renewal cycle.

Also, what prompted you to decide to renew the store?
It is characterised by being heavily influenced by internal company circumstances.

  • In conjunction with mergers and name changes
  • According to the timing of listing
  • In celebration of our 50th anniversary,
  • In line with changes in the mid-term management plan
  • Global support became necessary … etc.

Renewal is also decided depending on organizational changes and sales strategy situations.
This is one of the reasons why B2B renewal cycles are so long.

Once a decision is made, it's quick! Projects move forward quickly

Renewal is something that is difficult to implement, but once the decision is made, things move forward quickly.

It took less than three months from deciding on the renewal to deciding on a web production company.
From the first meeting with the production company to delivery, the process is quick, taking anywhere from three months to less than six months.

So how do you choose a web development company?

The overwhelming majority of competitions are by nomination.

A production company that has been around for a long time,
A production company happened to be approaching me at that time.
The typical pattern is to contact several of these companies and hold a competition.

Once the production company has been decided,
In most cases, the website is launched within six months.

Even though I only do it occasionally, once I decide to do it, it happens in a flash.

What we hear from such places is,
These are the confused voices of the web managers in charge of the renewal.

"I don't know about the previous renovation."
One staff member at a loss

"I don't know anything about the last renewal."
"I don't even know who was in charge."
"This is my first time, where should I start?"

We hear a lot of confusion from those in charge of renovations.

BtoB companies rarely have a department dedicated to the web,
The majority of people are in charge of operating their own company's website while also working other jobs.

In addition, employees are often transferred to other departments every 2-3 years,
Considering the average cycle of 6.4 years, it is highly unlikely that a renewal will occur twice.

The person in charge is at a loss.

Of course, I am a professional in my industry.
I don't know how to go about renewing the website since it's outside my area of expertise.

It's natural to feel confused and lost.
Because they don't do it. Because they don't have the know-how.
The unique challenges faced by B2B companies operating in specialized industries are the same for all companies.

That's why we have Monosus! (laughs)

A rare chance for renewal.
We hope you will find the know-how we have cultivated useful.

Finally, we would like to provide an overview of some of the renovation projects we have carried out to date.
