Thoughts on random things #7
- Who is your hero? -

2019.01.15 | TOPICS | CULTURE

Most people think they have a hero.
In fact, I feel that this existence is very important.

Recently, when I talk to various people, not just within the company, I hear people say, "I don't know what I really want to do."
I meet a lot of people who are seriously worried about this.

I myself am currently struggling with this issue, so I find myself pondering it together with the person in question.
When I thought about it, I realized that maybe I'd never know what I really wanted to do.

I think that what you want to do can be rephrased as an act, an action, or an undertaking, but when it comes to pursuing it to the fullest, there may actually be no solution.

Well known in psychology
Be: Presence, state of being
Do: Action, behavior
There is a useful classification called "Have: Results, Outcomes."

Of these three, what you want to do is in the Do area, but in fact, you should not think of Do in isolation.
We always think about the results we get from doing something and the self-awareness (existence, way of being) that is formed as a result.

It may seem obvious, but to "do" something is
Naturally, you are expecting results, and you also seek psychological rewards such as feeling "good" or "happy" when you achieve results, which gives you the motivation to take action.

In other words, "What do you want to do?"
At the same time, it is also a question of "how do you want to be?"
If anything, it is the latter that is closer to the heart of the matter.

But, including me, the people around me who are struggling,
Focus only on the part of "what do you want to do?"
This leads to circular thinking.

In other words, starting from "What do you want to do?"
If you shift your focus to "how you want to be," you might feel a little better.

When thinking about "who I want to be," I think the key is to look at your own heroes.
In the feelings of admiration for heroes,
The feeling of "I want to be like that"
Because it gets mixed up quite a bit.

That's why biographies are read so much all over the world.
The origin of the problem is the era in which we live.
Perhaps everyone is vaguely aware that we live in an age where it is difficult to make use of the successful experiences of people in the past.

People in the past probably didn't have to worry about their jobs being taken over by AI.
"If I didn't have to work, I'd be so grateful."
I'm sure that's what I thought.
Most of the causes of wars mentioned in history textbooks are to escape hunger.
So I think that even when reading the biographies of heroes from the past, it's a little harder to find hints for the future.

It's currently impossible to meet people from the future,
If we can't find answers in the past,
We need to look for heroes in our modern age.

The problem is that modern heroes are often successful business people or superstars.
There is a sense of isolation, like "I could never become like that."
I was reborn three times,
I don't think I'll ever be in Forbes.

So that's what I think.
It all depends on how many people you meet that you can truly respect, even if they are close to you.
I think it will change the way you approach the question, "What do you want to do?"

Even if you are not a famous person,
I met someone I truly admired,
Spending time together,
I believe that being showered with the essence of "how you want to be" will give you the energy to properly direct your thoughts to the question of "what do you want to do?"

When I think about it like that, I, who am currently struggling with the question of "what do I want to do?"
Still, being in a position to listen to other people's troubles
I realized it was because I had so many heroes around me.

If you can get even a vague idea of "who you want to be," then you will naturally start to see "what you want to do."

Thank you to all my heroes.
