My thoughts after joining Coding Factory from Kamiyama Monosasu Juku

Hello.
I'm Kakunami, a coder in the Coding Factory department.

The second term of the Kamiyama Monosasu Juku that we are currently running is going really well, and I am actually one of the first students.
(*The first Kamiyama Monosasu Juku was held for about five months from November 2015 to March 2016.)

I joined Monosus Inc.'s Coding Factory Department (hereinafter referred to as CF) in April 2016, and before I knew it, I had been there for over six months, spending more time at Monosus than I had studied coding in Kamiyama.

From the perspective of a graduate of the first Kamiyama Monosasu Juku,
Why did you decide to join Monosus?
I would like to introduce to you what kind of company Coding Factory is, where I actually joined and was assigned.

What did we do in the first Kamiyama Monosasu Juku?

A lesson by instructor Ito

Unlike the second term of Kamiyama Monosasu Juku, in the first term of Kamiyama Monosasu Juku, after joining the school, students focused almost entirely on studying coding (mainly HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery).

On the first day of classes, our instructor, Ito, gave us a warm-up lesson in which he asked us to "try to display any kind of text on the browser."

At the time, I had no idea how a web page was displayed, and I couldn't even get a single character to display on the browser, so I wondered, "Will I be able to continue in this way...?"
I still remember how anxious I was when I started Kamiyama Monosasu Juku.

However, thanks to Instructor Ito's careful and humorous lessons, I gradually improved my skills, and by the end of the year, I was able to create simple websites using HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery.

Then in 2016, the role of instructor was passed from Ito to Maruyama.

Maruyama's latest technology lectures are being held

Around this time, I learned how to create responsive sites and how to design CSS incorporating modern CSS design patterns such as OOCSS and SMACSS, as Maruyama is a fan of the latest technology.

Towards the end of the class, we did group work where several people worked together to create a website, and we also had a test of the CF guidelines, so the day felt like it went by very quickly.

After that, thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of the instructors, I successfully passed the graduation test at Kamiyama Monosasu Juku.
I was able to successfully graduate from Kamiyama Monosasu Juku.

"I want to train each and every student to be a coder who can succeed anywhere,"
Starting with Ito, who spoke passionately in class one day, many people, both during class and outside of class,
The instructors are happy to answer any questions you may have (or maybe even tease you?!).
Combined with the usual high quality of the lessons,
From an early stage after joining the school, I naturally began to think, "I want to work for a company with these people!" and decided to work at Monosus.

So, when I was asked, "Would you like to work for us (Monosus)?" before graduating, it was the happiest moment since I joined the school.

Actually join the company

After joining Monosus, I was assigned to CF, which was a position I had wanted to take even before joining the company.

A workplace that specializes in coding...
I felt a little bit conceited, thinking, "I've studied coding so much at cram school, I'm sure I can manage it."

However, once the new employee training was over and I was actually assigned to a project,

  • Schedule management and adjustments up to the delivery date
  • Confirming project specifications before starting coding
  • Coding direction that involves interacting directly with customers (I'm still not very good at this...)

There were many other tasks besides those mentioned above, and although it may seem obvious now, I realized that CF's job is not just about coding. I had a hard time doing my job well and lost confidence.

During this time, even when I was talking to my classmates from the same Kamiyama Monosasu Juku,

  • "Cram school and work are completely different. I can't start coding because I have to check the specifications."
  • "Coding is much more difficult than I thought it would be!"
  • "Different browsers cannot display the same content"

And many more...

It was also a time when I shared many of my worries (which were half complaints) with my fellow colleagues over a drink.

However, whenever I felt like I was losing confidence, I consulted with my team leader, Sugano, and other senior employees, who told me that even though they were busy with their own projects,

"This is how you should code it!"
"For this project, let's confirm these specifications with the client!"
"This tool is great, let's try it!"

The advice that keeps coming...
There, I found senior employees from CF who were just as kind and willing to help as the instructors at Kamiyama Monosasu Juku, if not more so.

The problem was successfully resolved thanks to the advice of a senior employee.

Perhaps thanks to that, by summer I was gradually getting used to the work, and I felt as if the expressions on the faces of my fellow colleagues around me seemed brighter.

What is Coding Factory, according to the first batch of Kamiyama Monosasu Juku graduates?

Monosus itself has many different people working in various departments,
From my perspective, the coding factory is a great place to work.
" The peace of mind that my colleagues who work in the same workplace will lend me a hand in times of need ."
I think it's a workplace where you can do that.

Because we have a workplace like this, I believe we have a system in place that allows everyone to work together to overcome any project, no matter how difficult or large-scale it may be.

I still rely a lot on my seniors for help, but I will do my best to be an active member of Coding Factory and to give those around me a sense of security just like my seniors do.
