The Monosasu site will be taking a break for now.

This is a website that has been updated almost daily since November 2015.
I will be taking a break from February.

Over the past three years, we have published 783 articles.
Looking back on it, I think "persistence is power."

Of course, since it was our own website, we started it without anyone asking us to.
About 70 members each write articles,
This was an attempt to convey the honest current state of the company Monosus from multiple perspectives.

Through daily articles, we have tried to convey as realistically as possible the ever-changing "image of our company" - not only about our work, but also about our daily lives, what we are passionate about, the locations we have expanded to over the past few years (Yoyogi, Kamiyama, Osaka, Suo-Oshima, Thailand), and changes in our own working style.

There were three rules that were decided in advance.

  • Writing together almost every day
  • Write in the first person (subject = me)
  • Don’t make it your own media

In the last three years, I'm the only one who has broken a rule and prevented a planned article from being published (No Longer Human). That's how hard everyone has worked to create articles.

The Monosasu editorial team was at the center of this effort.

Since it is not what is known as owned media, we do not pursue buzz or numbers.
Therefore, I didn't receive any particular appreciation from anyone, and sometimes I was rejected and sometimes thanked. I cried and laughed together. Every day, I continued to be close to people who had never written anything before.

Furthermore, we were also swept up in the vortex of a major shift in the way we work at Monosus, from "rights" and "obligations" to "freedom" and "responsibility." Looking back, I think this project was a stark reflection of the situation of the entire company.

We all try to write almost every day.
Something has become clear from this.

Continuing to write in the first person may allow me to face my present, past, and future self and shape my own project.
On the other hand, what does it mean to choose not to write?

or

The Monosasu editorial team may be something like a "community manager" responsible for creating the company's culture. The outline is starting to become clear.

This time, we will be taking a break from the site to fully outline this, and then we will move on to a new phase.

Reading enriches people.
Speaking makes a person more alert.
Writing makes a person more certain.
(Francis Bacon, philosopher)

This is my favorite word.

When an essential cycle of reading, speaking, and writing is born within a person, that person will be able to stand on their own two feet, and with their own initiative as their engine, they will be able to create a place for themselves. And I think it would be good to have an "organization" to support that.

When everyone recognizes each other's "freedom" and connects organically, I believe the company will become a "place" where people can continue to learn from each other and grow.

I don't know how long I'll be on break.
We also plan to post articles periodically to update you on the progress of the renewal.
I would be grateful if you could watch over us warmly.

[Openly created owned media]

As we renew our site, we are discussing the idea of forming a "working group" with people both inside and outside the company to think about the theme of "Thinking about our owned media" together.

Nowadays, information is disseminated through social media and owned media. As the term "post-truth" suggests, more importance is placed on emotional appeal, such as creating buzz or looking good on Instagram, rather than on whether something is true or not.

In such a situation, what kind of "measurement site" do we want to embody?
It may sound like an exaggeration, but thinking about this is what will shape the way we work and organizations will function in society in the future.

Rather than coming up with this form on our own, we would like to create it together with people with diverse ideas, including volunteer employees, people who have supported Monosus in the past, and people we are meeting for the first time.

First of all, we are going to be "OPEN" about ourselves, and we will be holding a talk called "What was it like running the Monosasu site for 3 years?" (We hope to have some delicious food ready). The interviewers will be Yoshiaki Nishimura and Nozomi Nakajima, an editor at Nihon Shigoto Hyakkaten. The event will be held at the Monosasu office in Yoyogi. We will announce the details and date on the website once they have been decided.
