MONOSUS
ICECREAMING MAG

Kanae Funayama, the strength behind her smile.

Kanae Funayama is a young, veteran checker in the quality control department.

I received a vague request from the Monosasu editorial department saying, "I heard that you two are good friends," so this time I, who belong to the Coding Factory club, will be crossing departments and introducing her.

I don't remember what the occasion was, but before I knew it, Funayama and I started going out to lunch together. We share a common interest in liking Japanese sake, so we go out for drinks after work.

By the way, my favorite restaurant that I often go to for lunch is " Gandhi ."
Whenever I go to Gandhi, the atmosphere is always lively with Gandhi talk, such as "Thursday is the daily special (coconut chicken curry)," "But the keema is hard to resist," and "The ratio of curry to rice and naan."

Even when we went out for drinks, we talked a lot about alcohol, like "There's a great sake brewery in Kanagawa" or "The soba restaurant in the neighborhood has an excellent selection of sake." Most of the conversation was about trivial things, but to me, he was someone I could relax with and feel at ease with.

Question: What kind of person is Mr. Funayama?

Funayama-san, Ofune-chan, Kanae-chan, Funayamassyi, Funassyi, and so on.
I also change the name depending on my mood that day, but there are many names for things in Zhoushan.
The fact that there are so many nicknames means that each member is cared for and a unique relationship is built. In other words, it can be said to be proof of rich human relationships within the company.
We spoke to Manager K, who usually calls Funayama "Mr. Funayama."

"What kind of person is Zhoushan-san?"

"She's young but she's solid."
"You can't fool people with atmosphere or vibe."
"I might get in trouble if I say something inappropriate."

Yes, that is certainly how it feels.
Next, I asked I, who I call "Funayamasshi."

"Even though he's younger than me, he's reliable."
"He's well behaved and can eat grilled fish neatly."
"A sharp tongue that gets straight to the point."

That's right, one of her charming points is that she doesn't pander.

Actually, Funayama and I are of the same zodiac sign, but we are a whole generation apart in age.
Even though I am older and a senior, he doesn't hesitate to tell me clearly if he thinks something is wrong.

I have a rule that if I think something is funny, I will say it at least three times, even if people don't like it.
Sometimes I get no response even after repeating it three times, or I get nothing but a simple "I hear you." People who are honest and forthright are refreshing.

Don't forget to be considerate of others,
Say exactly what you need to say

Despite this, Funayama does not waver in his stance when it comes to work.
I say what I want to say clearly and without hesitation. At the same time, I also don't forget to be considerate of others.

When I was in charge of coding in my current department, I was always very grateful to Zhoushan, a checker in the quality control department.
What I found particularly helpful while working with him was how clearly he pointed out the areas that needed correction.

When there were any points that seemed difficult to understand even through the spreadsheet, Funayama (left) came to provide additional explanations in person to ensure there were no misunderstandings.

Recently, I've been getting check page corrections back in a spreadsheet,
The pages she checked contained concise and accurate suggestions for corrections.
Even the same text can be understood at different levels depending on the person looking at it and their perspective, so although this may seem simple, it is actually quite difficult.
Even though she is blunt, she is trusted by those around her because she is also able to think and communicate things from the other person's perspective.

One of the jobs that Funayama is in charge of is working as the monosustaining check desk.
We mainly communicate with Thai members through chat tools, but we also use them to communicate with Thai members who are far away.
I think her approach of always being considerate of the other person and clearly saying what needs to be said is a great fit.

Even so, it seems that she had a lot of worries at first (although she didn't consult me at all).
He actually went to Thailand alone and solved the problem himself! He's really reliable.

The unknown side

Now, before entering Monosus, Zhoushan was
In fact, I am qualified as a childcare worker and have worked in a nursery school for a short time.
Although she had achieved her dream of becoming a nursery school teacher, she felt pressured by being called a teacher, and so she applied for a job at Monosus with the desire to "grow both as a person and as a member of society," learning the basics of being a member of society.

She was the youngest member of Monosus when she joined the company, but her youth and honesty allowed her to quickly absorb all kinds of knowledge. After she began working mainly as a checker, she attended a vocational school to gain a deeper understanding of web production, and there was a period when she studied intensively. It has been four years since then... Now she has become an indispensable member of the quality control department, and she also plays an important role as a trainer for new members.

When I first heard about her as a nursery teacher, I was surprised at the contrast with her cold demeanor.
Speaking of gaps, one thing that cannot be mentioned when talking about Funayama is her participation in visual kei concerts, which is one of her hobbies.
Whenever he talked about bands, he would speak with a completely different level of enthusiasm and seem to be having a lot of fun, so I wondered what it was like to be so passionate about a band, and one time I was invited to see him play.
The vocalist of Funayama's favorite band is covered in (glue) blood and wrapped up in bandages, so he's not particularly my style, but Funayama says, "No matter what he looks like, I like the natural (life-size) feeling of the words the vocalist speaks."

The atmosphere of the live show and the enthusiasm of the audience were unique and there were many things that were new to us, but what made the biggest impact was Funayama's complete transformation.
I can't go into details because it requires coordination with various parties, but I was able to see a different, more passionate side of Zhoushan than usual, and it made me like her even more.

The reason why people call me a "reliable person"

Funayama is actively involved in filling the "gaps" within Monosus with the desire to improve the environment in which they work.
Even if it is not your turn, if the courtyard is dirty or covered in fallen leaves, sweep it up with a broom.
She checks diligently every day to make sure consumables are replenished and the kitchen is tidy, and she gets the job done quickly, which makes her seem like a capable woman.

If everyone just assumes that someone will do it, the situation won't change.
I try to do it when I notice it.

She was inspired by the words of famous pastry chef Aoki Sadaharu, and since then she has been thinking and acting in the same way.

I think the image that many people have of him as a "reliable person" probably comes from this.

When I see Funayama like that, I feel grateful, but at the same time, I also feel that I should help out when I can.

Funayama controls the bamboo broom with practiced hands.

She is a sensible person who knows exactly what to do. She takes breaks and balances herself well, and never loses her cool during work. She acts according to her own beliefs. Looking back at her story, I found Funayama to be the polar opposite of me. Maybe I admire her for her inner strength...

If I had to say, I think she would be twice as cute if she relied on her seniors a little more.
Having said that, I couldn't really imagine her like that, but as for me, I'd be happy if we could continue to enjoy eating curry and drinking sake together.
