"Here are some sweets we have" promotes internal communication

I'm Murakami, the leader of the quality control department.
Starting this time, the Quality Control Department will also have its own corner.
My usual job is to check the websites that we have created in-house.
Our Quality Control Department often works in a very concentrated manner, trying not to overlook even the smallest mistakes, but we hope to provide a relaxed corner that provides a change of pace from our daily work, so please take your time to read through.

For all of you who lead busy lives every day, do you value time to relax?
I think everyone has their own way of taking a break from work, but most people snack on snacks while they're working.
Especially after a long holiday, you may find yourself with a pile of sweets from all over the country in the corner of your desk, which you rarely get to eat, as souvenirs from people who have traveled or returned home from other parts of Japan.
I always enjoy it for both the eyes and the taste.

Back in the day, I too (selfishly) set a high bar for eating sweets at work.
I had decided that it was absolutely not okay to have sweets while working as a member of society!! But, I still felt like I was hungry...a little would be okay...just one bite...just for today... I lowered the bar more and more, and before I knew it, I had small sweets secretly stuffed into my desk drawer.

At first, I would munch on it shyly, waiting for times when no one was around, but after my colleagues discovered it surprisingly quickly, I made up my mind and decided to share it.
"We have these sweets"
When I looked around again, I noticed that everyone was munching away at something, so I didn't pay it any attention. (At Monosus)
Whether they were influenced by me or not, the other members also started bringing a variety of sweets in addition to souvenirs, and delicious snacks began to be stocked regularly in the Quality Control Department.

There are various theories about this, such as eating something sweet increasing concentration or chewing something hard waking you up, but sweets can also often be used as a small communication tool.

Due to the structure of the building, the Quality Control Department is located a little away from the other departments, so many staff members only drop in to take a break.
It may be an exaggeration to say that sweets are a great conversation starter in such situations, but they are a very useful item.
I recommend them to coders who bring in documents for projects, and give them as gifts to people who are feeling a bit hungry.
Sometimes I learn someone's preferences without even realizing it, and I save a gift for them and hand it to them when I pass by.

A scene where people from other departments come and talk while eating snacks

It's not just a way for visitors to take a breather; for us, who tend to forget to take a break and just sit in front of the display, it's also a valuable opportunity to have a little conversation with people from other departments.

If you feel like you're not communicating enough, keeping some snacks on hand at your desk might help create an opening for communication.
