Fall fashion is fun
Personal! Autumn fashion discussion

Hello, this is Tayama from the Quality Control Department.
The unusually hot summer has passed before we know it, and outside the leaves have all fallen, signifying the arrival of autumn.

Spring, summer, autumn and winter. Which season do you like best?

I love autumn because there is something sad about the smell of winter approaching and the indescribable temperature. Autumn can make you feel a little lonely for a moment, but on the other hand, the temperature makes it easy to move around and makes you feel excited.

Autumn is also my favorite season for fashion.
What I like about autumn fashion is that I can go outside in just a knitted sweater. I can also layer it without feeling too thick, and I can change my impression when I put on and take off my outerwear.
The perfect temperature makes your steps feel lighter and makes you want to dress up and head out to different places.

Does the Quality Control Department also check casual clothing more strictly?

Kawaguchi, are you wearing something new again?

Did you find out, Tayama ?

This conversation occurs regularly with my department manager , Mr. Kawaguchi, who sits next to me.
Kawaguchi-san used to work as an apparel staff member, so he would carefully check out my clothes and then look at me with narrowed eyes and ask, "You bought that again, didn't you?"

I enjoy these conversations so much that I often find myself wearing new clothes just to show off (laughs).

As we continued to talk, I gradually became curious about what points Kawaguchi pays attention to when buying clothes, even though she is always sensitive to trends.

So that's it....

Let's talk about fashion

The basics of fashion for two

Tayama

What colour clothes do you like?

Kawaguchi

In spring it's a lighter beige, and in autumn it's a darker beige.
Another color I like is navy. Black tends to look stiff and heavy, but navy looks lighter and still gives off a neat impression, so it's a color I usually choose. What is your favorite color, Mr. Tayama?
(Mr. Kawaguchi often calls me "Mr. Tayama" lol).

Tayama

I've been liking brown and yellow lately, and I've always liked pale colors. I'm not really good with primary colors. I like dull pink and blue colors.

Kawaguchi

That's right, she was wearing dull pink and stuff.

Tayama

...You have a keen eye for fashion (laughs). Do you have a favorite design?

Kawaguchi

It depends on the fashion at the time. A while ago, it was good to wear clothes that were just the right size, but nowadays larger sizes are in fashion, so it's better to wear pants and tops that are a little looser.

Tayama

...It's true that I often see you wearing wide pants. Do you care about looking modern?

Kawaguchi

It's important to look modern, but also something that suits you and looks age appropriate.

Tayama

I see... I've learned something.

Who is your fashion role model?

I went for a stroll around Meiji Shrine with some of my favorite clothes that I got this fall!

Tayama

What do you like about the brand?

Kawaguchi

Hmm, I don't have a favorite. I used to like high-end brands like Comme des Garçons and Martin Margiela , but after I turned 30, I started spending more on accessories than on clothes. I choose fast fashion and things that look good regardless of the brand.
Which brand does Mr. Tayama like?

Tayama

I always check out ZARA every month. I like that the fabrics don't look cheap even though they're not that expensive, and that unless something is super popular and sold out, you won't be wearing the same thing as other people.
Kawaguchi-san, is there anything you pay attention to when buying clothes?

Kawaguchi

How well it can be worn with the clothes I already own, and whether it suits me at my current age.
No matter how good the clothes are, if wearing them makes you look younger, then it doesn't suit your current appearance... I think it's important to look at it in a balanced way. What about you, Tayama?

Tayama

I hate wearing the same thing as other people, so I choose clothes that are unlikely to be worn by others. When I pass someone on the street wearing the same clothes, I feel hopeless (laughs). Recently, I've started choosing clothes with something a little different, like skirts with pleats on parts. I really like the skirt I'm wearing in the photo.
What is your reference for clothes?

Kawaguchi

Magazines, mostly. The one I've been buying a lot lately is men's FUDGE .
There are a lot of casual clothes aimed at people in their 20s and 30s, so I look at them while imagining what I would look like wearing them. They are based on trad (traditional, unchanging, basic taste), but I like that style too, so it's very helpful.

For example, if it's a shirt, should I wear it out or tuck it in? I want a long coat, but what kind of pants would go well with it? What kind of sneakers would go well with it? It's full of hints, so I copy the way they dress.

Men's FUDGE: The target audience is people in their 20s and 30s, with a traditional, high-casual style. While keeping in mind overseas trends, the outfits are simple and fashionable. (October 2018 issue, p30, 31)

Tayama

For me, it's JJ and GISELE . JJ is for people around 25 years old, so it's perfect for me right now. But I've been reading it every month for the past 2-3 years. It often features my favorite brand, ZARA.

It's very helpful as it has outfits arranged according to height, bone structure, and other body types, and also includes outfits for various everyday situations.
By the way, are there any models or celebrities that you look up to?

(Top) JJ was reborn in 2014. The theme is "The target readers are now around 25 years old, instead of female college students." Targeting people in their mid-20s, we introduce clean casual clothes and not-too-conservative office lady and commuting clothes every month. (November 2018 issue, p86, 87)
(Below) GISELE : Targeting people in their 20s and 30s, this magazine has a casual adult/celebrity feel. Each month, the cover is so striking that you can't help but pick it up. (November 2018 issue, p50, 51)

Kawaguchi

If we're talking about dressy styles (i.e. suits), then I'd say actor Ryuta Mine. He often came to the apparel brand I used to work for, and I have the impression that he wears nice clothes, so I think he's a very stylish person.

Tayama

That was unexpected (lol). I didn't really have an image of Mine-san's casual clothes, but they are certainly stylish!

By the way, I like TBS announcer Sasagawa Yuri and model Deoka Misaki .
I also follow illustrators on Instagram whose illustrations are so cute that I always use them as inspiration. ( Kikuchi Atsuko and Iwata Mai )

Kawaguchi

Wow. So cute.

What's fashion like this fall/winter?

Tayama

Do you have any favorites that you bought this season?

Kawaguchi

This is the long Chester coat I'm wearing in the photo that I bought the other day. It's beige, but it's a large size and has no lining, so you can wear it from now until just before midwinter. I fell in love with it at first sight because it's a color that can be worn in many different ways. I didn't plan on buying it though (lol). It's easy to wear because it doesn't have any front buttons.

My favorite this season is a pleated skirt, and Kawaguchi's favorite is a beige long coat.

Tayama

The lack of buttons is so cute! The loose sleeves are very trendy this year!

Kawaguchi

What about Mr. Tayama?

Tayama

This bag has fur on it! I bought it in early September, thinking it might be a little early, but I fell in love with it at first sight because I really like the dark brown color and the fur is unique.

Kawaguchi

When I first saw it I thought it was cute!

Tayama

Thank you (lol).

After all, fashion is fun!

It's exciting to wear new clothes.
It makes me feel good and makes me want to meet someone.
It doesn't matter whether you buy clothes simply because you like them or whether you buy them for someone else.
I think this feeling of excitement is important no matter how many years pass.
When you're feeling tired of something, one way to change your mood is to start with changing your clothes.

Why not spend the last autumn and winter of the Heisei era with some new clothes?
