This month's MVP is Masayuki Shinba, a designer in his third year at the company who belongs to the Production & Design Department.
The man chosen was someone who looks like John Lennon when wearing glasses, and Jesus Christ when letting his hair down.
First of all, what is the "MVP of the Month"? It is a system to recognize the "member who was the MVP" during the month. However, there is a little point in how it is selected.
Monosus currently has five divisions. The head of each division sends a letter of recommendation to the executive in charge of their own department, along with a passionate message about who they think should be the MVP of the month. In other words, five candidates for MVP are nominated.
The three executives then gather together and each gives an impassioned presentation in support of the candidate nominated by their own department.
Then, from those five candidates, we will have 30 minutes to debate who will be the MVP of the month.
Each of the three executives is determined to have their division's candidate win, so the discussion is quite heated.
However, I feel that it is typical of Monosus to not simply decide by majority vote, but to discuss the reason for choosing the MVP until they are fully satisfied.
(By the way, if we still can't decide after all the discussion, we won't tell you how we decide.)
The MVPs selected in this way are honored once a month at a general meeting where all Monosus members gather.
Now, I, Onogi, the department manager who recommended Shiba Makoto for the "MVP of the Month" award, would like to explain, albeit a little embarrassingly, why he is the MVP.
The deciding factor for winning the award was "Let me enter that competition"
Shizuha joined the company just over two years ago, making her one of Monosus's relatively new designers.
Although I had originally been involved in graphic design, I had little experience in web design and initially joined the company as a part-timer.
He has a mysterious side to him - he commutes from Fujisawa, which is far from the Yoyogi office, he doesn't eat meat, and he has long-winded trivia about oil - but he has a good eye for design and is adept at dealing with customers, so before we knew it, he was made a full-time employee.
On the other hand, he seemed to be rather carefree, or cool, and somehow kept a step away from the other members of the club, which worried me a little, and I actually pointed this out to him.
His efforts have become more noticeable recently as we have been busy with projects and competitions leading up to the end of the year. As the department manager, I have been preoccupied with large-scale projects throughout the year, and all of our designers have been struggling with how to get through this situation.
At that time, he said, "Let me take charge of that competition," and volunteered to be in charge of the design to be submitted for a competition for a relatively large project for Monosus.
We were also asked to make a proposal for a pamphlet in addition to the website, and he put it all together in a short period of time and created a wonderful design. I was a little worried about coming up to budget (laughs), so I was grateful to him for that as well.

What made me very happy this time was that he proactively volunteered to participate in the competition even though he was busy with his own project. He usually works on long-term operational projects, and I had the impression that he worked nonchalantly in his own territory, but he volunteered to participate in a competition that required quality in a short period of time while working on his own project, saying that it was "for the sake of the department," and I was happy that he won it. I feel like we have become one through our work.
And the quality of the design they created was simply amazing! (Sorry if I'm being self-promoting.)
As a manager, I couldn't be happier.
But there's one unfortunate thing...

I recently had my hair cut.
What about John?
What about Jesus?
Hello, just a handsome man with deep features.
He is good at communicating with clients, and is also good at thinking about how to organize his time and how to efficiently complete projects. I think he will continue to grow into a great designer. Good luck!
Comments from the winner, Shinba
First of all, I would like to thank Director Onogi for recommending me as MVP, and the members of Monosus who always help me out.
In my third year as a member of Monosus, I have seen Monosus MVP award winners shine brightly as they overcame busy work schedules, cleared difficult challenges, and gained the trust of those around them while growing significantly. I saw everyone expressing their appreciation and congratulations at each awards ceremony every month, so I was mostly surprised when my name was called, but I remember the joy gradually building up inside me later.
I joined Monosus as a web designer, but since I was almost a novice in this industry, I started working without seeing the whole picture of website production, and I think I managed to keep up thanks to the guidance of my seniors on even the smallest details of design.
Nevertheless, starting this year, I was entrusted with the role of liaison for BtoB projects within the department. I was beginning to feel that I had acquired some knowledge of web design, and I was beginning to think that it was about time to complete a website. At the same time, the department's goal of participating in a competition to increase the number of website creation jobs for BtoB companies coincided with the above.
Although it was hectic working on operational projects and other productions at the same time, I was able to take part in several competitions. Among them, some projects were ordered, and I think I was able to get one step closer to my own goal while also getting closer to the department's goal.
From my perspective as someone who is not good at teamwork or group activities, I feel that many of the members of Monosus are proactive in creating circles and enjoy growth and change. I was able to receive the MVP award because of the support of such members, and that is why I feel that it was very meaningful. And I would like to continue to work hard at my own pace without falling over.
