Side dishes that will put you in a good mood whether it's sunny or cloudy
~Hello Deli Sangubashi~

I was waiting for the weather to improve.

We decided to go to Hello Deli Sangubashi, a delicatessen located right next to Sangubashi Station on the Odakyu Line.

I was thinking of going to the park to get some deli groceries.

It was Furuhat from the marketing department who told me about this restaurant.
Shortly after I entered Monosus, he showed me around Sangubashi Bridge.
"A deli recently opened up there. Let's bring it to the park when it gets warmer."
He told me, ``I'm sorry.''

The weather in mid-March, the beginning of spring, is unsettled, with days that were supposed to be sunny turning into rain.
After changing our plans several times, we headed for Sannomiyabashi Bridge together with Furuhat in the early afternoon of a warm, sunny day.

It takes about 10 minutes on foot from Monosas to arrive.

You will be greeted by a bright yellow door and a mother kangaroo and her baby, raising their paws and saying "Hello."

When you enter the store, there is a showcase at the front.
A variety of colorful side dishes are lined up.

"Gizzard and vegetable confit", "Sweet shrimp with gochujang sauce", "Pork and rosemary rolls with stewed vegetables sauce"...
A combination of ingredients that is a little different from your typical side dish.
The two of us stared at it intently.

Not only side dishes, but also sandwiches and cakes are available.

We also have hot side dishes available.

And there's something that piques my interest!
Freshly sliced prosciutto is wrapped around homemade bread.

Let me order this, please.

There is a room in the store where the prosciutto is cut, so they will cut it for you right away.

Thinly sliced ham dries out easily, so after this, it is best to wrap it in glassine paper. It is recommended to eat it within an hour.

The fun of going to a deli is buying a variety of items and sharing them.
Furuhat and I chose three types of deli items, a sandwich, and prosciutto bread.

While paying, I decided to add a cake too.

When I tried to speak to the shop owner, he called over and told me to wait a moment.

This is the owner and chef, Nakata Haru.

The product he is holding in his hand is mackerel anchovy paste made in Shimane Prefecture.

They came from the nearby Italian restaurant " Sando Sando ." This deli opened in October last year as the restaurant's second branch.

Tanaka-san has experience training in Italy, and with a base of Italian cuisine, he aims to create seasonal side dishes using fish and vegetables from his hometown of Shimane Prefecture that will always feel fresh to locals.
I see, I think I understand the reason behind this unique and sophisticated cuisine that is both Japanese and Western.

When I asked if there were any ingredients from Shimane Prefecture on the menu that day,
"We have grilled vegetables with mackerel anchovies," he said.
Mackerel anchovies?! I was surprised, but it sold out right before my eyes... It seems to be a popular item.
I'll ask next time.

The store also sells takeaway wine.

There are a variety of wines available, including sakura wine, which is white wine mixed with sakura liqueur, and sangria!

I used to think that delis were something you eat outside, but it seems that most of the time, it's just people who stop by to buy food before going home. I agree. These side dishes are perfect as snacks to go with wine.

The first store is called "Sando Sando," which means "always, always" in the Shimane dialect. I heard they serve lunch, so I definitely wanted to try it.

While I was talking with Nakata, the side dishes were being wrapped up.
The cute packaging makes it a pleasure to carry around!

When asked about the origin of the kangaroo mark, they said, "Because we want people to feel free to drop in and take a hop." Indeed, when you see this mark, it somehow makes you feel lighter.

After thanking Nakata-san, we headed to the park.

We spread out what we bought that day at Sannomiyabashi Park, a short walk up the hill opposite Hello Deli.
Before we knew it, the warm sunshine had disappeared and it had become cloudy, but we were both in good spirits.

Let me introduce them one by one.

Sauteed spring vegetables, olives and sun-dried tomatoes

The sweet, fleshy dried tomatoes go well with the rape blossoms and broccoli! The purple bean-like things are olives. They have a strong flavor that is sweet and slightly bitter.

Grilled Chicken with Yuzu Pepper Sauce

On this day, the dish features grilled chicken mixed with radish sprouts and cherry tomatoes, but the combination changes depending on the ingredients used that day. The yuzu pepper adds a nice spiciness.

Carrot and blood orange salad

It contains a lot of blood orange pulp. It is not very sour and has the natural sweetness of carrots and oranges. The mint is the highlight of this salad, making it very refreshing!

Ham rolls

Parma Prosciutto, one of the world's three great hams, is aged for 16 months. The olive oil soaks into the bread, allowing you to enjoy the delicious aroma of the oil while eating the ham.

Egg and Caper Sandwich

A large, chunky boiled egg is sandwiched between lightly toasted bread, drizzled in light mayonnaise and accented with capers.

A flutter of flower petals flew next to the sandwich.

The early-blooming cherry blossoms, known as Kawazu-zakura, have already lost their leaves.

Eating outside is a strange feeling; it makes you feel relaxed.
We were impressed by how delicious the carrot salad was and were eating it and chatting away when an elderly man taking a break from his walk called out to us.

Apparently, the grandfather makes it a daily routine to walk from Yoyogi Hachimangu Shrine to this park.
He has lived in the area for many years and said, "In Yoyogi Hachiman, remains of Jomon period dwellings have been discovered, and when I was in elementary school, I used to dig up pottery during sketching class."
I heard that it was only recently that Sangubashi became so lively. I also learned a little bit about the history of Yoyogi.

And a fun snack.
The one in the foreground is cheesecake with hazelnuts, and the one in the background is chocolate cake.

The steamed, slightly chewy cheesecake is filled with chunks of nuts. The chocolate cake is rich and does not disappoint. I split it into half and half.

I was basking in the afterglow for a while and talking with the old man,
As the temperature started to drop, I decided to head back to the office.

We walk down the slope while admiring the various flowers blooming in the park.
The cherry blossom buds were plump and ready to bloom.

Hello Deli is less than a minute away from Sannomiyabashi Station.
You can stop by on your way home from work,
During cherry blossom season, you can enjoy the outdoors while viewing the flowers.
The carefully prepared side dishes are sure to put you in a good mood!
