Hello. This is Sugie from the Production Department.
When it gets hot, you start craving something spicy.
I think it's an inescapable part of human nature.
When that happens, the typical thing you want to eat is...
YES! Curry!
So I visited during lunch time.
Camp Yoyogi Main Store is located about a 3-minute walk from the west exit of JR Yoyogi Station.
As the shop advertises, "Eat Vegetables," there are beautiful colorful vegetables piled high at the entrance! My expectations are rising!
Click here for the lunch menu.
There's a day's supply of vegetable curry, a mountain-sized curry with bone-in chicken and green onions, and a twice-cooked curry with cabbage and pork...you can choose from three types of roux for your day's supply of vegetable curry, and you can also change the rice to pasta.
We were both wondering whether we could try any of them, when the Yoyogi store manager, Ando-san, said, "It's still lunchtime, but we finished preparing the evening-only menu (BBQ Curry) early.
We can provide it, so if you'd like, please let us know!"
Being weak to the word "limited", I slightly overlapped with Ando-san's words and chose "That'll do!" = "BBQ Curry". Omura (hereafter Omura-san), who accompanied me, chose "Curry with a day's worth of vegetables" x "Original" of three types of roux to choose from, firmly sticking to the classic choice.
While waiting, you'll feel like you're camping as you look at the outdoor gear laid out on the table.
I found a recipe book. Looking at a recipe book when you're hungry just makes you hungrier.
camp's vegetable curry ~Special curry sauce, 15 minutes, no simmering, delicious~
At this point, I was already extremely hungry. Without hesitation, I turned my attention to the kitchen where the flames were rising.
His gaze started wandering and I was in danger. Just when I thought he might come soon, he did!
...You should order some omusun!!
A curry that provides a day's worth of vegetables. Overflowing with vegetables! The hot plate is bubbling away.
The spoon and fork are shovel-shaped! So cute!
By the way, you can choose the amount of rice. This photo shows a small portion (100g).
You can get up to a large portion (250g) for the same price, which is very reasonable!
While my mother was taking pictures, I was so hungry that I couldn't concentrate.
It arrived just as I was starting to lose my sense of direction as my eyes swam across it.
Meat.
It's BBQ Curry!!
I feel like this is no longer just curry. It's all about meat. It's the ultimate manly dish.
Apparently he was so hungry that he unconsciously pumped his fist in the air the moment he arrived.
Once each order is ready, it's finally time to eat!
The "Curry with a day's worth of vegetables" that Omu ordered contained over 350g of 14 different seasonal vegetables, and the menu said that it gave the illusion that vegetables were coming out no matter how much you scooped it up. Recommended for people who tend to not get enough vegetables in their daily lives. This dish truly embodies the restaurant's name, "Eat Your Vegetables." The roux is mildly spicy. Perhaps this is because the flavor of the vegetables is fully incorporated. I think it is easy to eat even for those who don't like spicy food.
The "BBQ Curry" I ordered is recommended for those who want to eat a lot of meat. In stark contrast to its tough appearance, its juiciness and tenderness will surprise you. The meat has such a strong impact that you may wonder where the vegetables are, but when you scoop up the roux, you will find onions and corn. The roux is a little on the spicy side. It has a slightly adult taste. That's why the presence of sweet vegetables like onions and corn is essential.
By the way, the "salsa" that we had with the meal, instead of Fukujinzuke, was also refreshing and made a great palate cleanser for the curry. I'm sure it would also be delicious on bread.
I think delicious food has the power to not only shut people up, but also to excite them. I cut the meat, scoop up the rice, bring it to my mouth with the meat, and exclaim, "Mmmmm!" I kept repeating this process over and over, probably twice as fast as usual. Before I knew it, I had finished the whole thing.
After eating curry, it's a conditioned reflex to crave something smooth in your mouth. So I ordered a lassi after the meal. It's available for an additional 100 yen during lunch. I'm happy.
Other drinks available include homemade ginger ale, rich mango juice, iced tea and coffee.
I received a stamp and stamp sheet after paying. One stamp for every 500 yen can be used at all Camp stores. There is no expiration date, so I think I'll be coming here again...
Camping means going to a place rich in nature and enjoying something out of the ordinary. On the other hand, curry (= food) is something everyday that fills your hunger. We tend to think of it in such a separate way, but this is the middle of the city, and it's a place where these two things can be mixed together. After leaving the restaurant, I felt full and full of energy, which may be because I was energized by the brief moment of being out of the ordinary.
Needless to say, work progressed smoothly that afternoon!
