Promotional video for the "Encounter with Stone" exhibition by leather artist Kazuya Fujisaki

Hello, this is Kawarazaki from Monosus.
The "Monosus Eizouken" corner started in the previous article .
This time, I have produced a promotional video for the "Encounter with Stone" exhibition by leather artist Kazuya Fujisaku, which will be held in Kamakura from Friday, July 17th to Sunday, July 19th, 2020. I would like to introduce the video and talk about what went on behind the scenes in the production of the exhibition.

This is a promotional video for the "Encounter with Stones" exhibition. It includes an interview, so please watch it with audio.

Who is Kazuya Fujisaki?

Fujisaki began working as a leather artist in 2012, and has been based in Hiratsuka since 2015, where he has been developing his own brand, KAZUYA FUJISAKU.
In addition to major leather products such as bags, wallets, and business card holders, we have recently begun producing original custom-made products tailored to client requests.

An example of Fujisaki's work.

The production of this video started when Katsumata-san of Monosus , who was originally a friend of Fujisaki-san, introduced me to Fujisaki-san. Katsumata-san also participated as a still photographer, and the photos used in this article were also taken by Katsumata-san.

Katsumata-san, who was in charge of the stills this time, is a director by trade at Monosus, but he also takes wonderful photos of everyday scenes .

To Tanzawa in search of stones To Hiratsuka to create art

On the day of the shoot, Fujisaki and Katsumata headed to the depths of Tanzawa early in the morning to collect stones. Here, Fujisaki became one with nature and was photographed examining the materials.
Also, I wanted some dynamic aerial footage at the beginning of the video, so I flew my favorite drone for the first time in a while. The weather was cloudy, but that actually made it more fantastical, and I was able to take some great shots.

In the afternoon, we moved to his base in Hiratsuka, where we captured Fujisaki working hard on his artwork using the materials he had collected in the morning.

Before we knew it, it was already evening. All three of us had forgotten about time and were engrossed in creating and photographing our work.

Humanity is present as the value of a work

Fujisaki-san laughs a lot. Although there are many scenes in the video where he talks seriously, he often laughs during filming and likes to have fun and get people involved. Therefore, Fujisaki-san, who lives in Hiratsuka, has many wonderful friends around him. At one point, he launched a collaborative brand with a fellow Hiratsuka metal engraver and painter.
I feel that Fujisaki's works not only incorporate his skills and dedication as a leather artist, but also his humanity, and that this will continue to attract and grow more fans.

Sharing your thoughts and values is important

After completing this shoot, I realized that sharing and understanding each other's thoughts and values beforehand is important in creating a work.
When I design, I try to research and input as much of the subject's background as possible. I felt that this was important in connecting the subject and photographer, a sense of distance that is difficult to express in words.
This time, in the Zoom meeting where Fujisaki and I first met, Katsumata suggested that we "talk about our favorite movies." Thinking about it now, I think that such a small thing was a good opportunity for us to get to know each other and become closer.
As a result, it was a project where we were able to have fun (this was the most important part), share ideas and create something we were satisfied with.

This is a 30-second version of the teaser movie.

Thank you to Fujisaki, who allowed me to photograph him this time, and to Katsumata, who connected me with Fujisaki and created a comfortable environment as the person in charge of stills and facilitator.

I also created the title logo for this exhibition, using stones as an accent to match the theme of the exhibition.
