2018.08.17 | TOPICS | CULTURE

Following on from yesterday, we will be introducing the favorite T-shirts of Monosasu members at Monosasu T
Shirt collection.

Today, we will introduce some of our favorite photos, including ones chosen intuitively and ones packed with memories.

It'll give you a relaxed feeling, like wearing a T-shirt during summer vacation!

Natsumi Tanaka (Director/Coder)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

This is a photo that I took at the " Fami Mairi " game and music event I went to in January, the first time I'd ever been to the new year after moving to Tokyo. It's an event that can only be found in Tokyo, and it's something I've always wanted to attend.
This T-shirt features a pixelated picture of a Lego gnome carrying a cassette to a cassette player.

What to consider when choosing a T-shirt?

I haven't been able to go much recently, but when I go to game events I often buy them as souvenirs.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

That's nice. Overall it's good.
You can wear it anytime, even when you want to show it off, and it can also be worn as an inner layer.
You can have it on or off. Yeah, it's great.
You can wear it comfortably without worrying about anything.
On delivery days or when I want to concentrate and work hard, I wear a T-shirt.

Makoto Kobayashi (Director)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

Even though it's a camouflage pattern, the colors are pretty and a bit flashy.
I like the indecisive feeling of wanting to stand out, but not wanting to stand out either (laughs). I generally like Adidas.

What to consider when choosing a T-shirt?

I choose what I like intuitively. I used to like printed T-shirts, but now I like patterns and plain ones.
I especially love stripes! When I see something with wide stripes I just can't help but buy it.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

It's a part of your body that you can't let go of, summer or winter, and it's with you all year round.

Hiromi Kakurai (Web Director)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

Five years ago, I was hitchhiking with a friend and wanted a T-shirt, so I came across this one while looking for one. I thought, "This is it!"
This is a T-shirt from Yuki Hero Pro Wrestling , a brand that also designs professional wrestling costumes.

Since the designer, Yukihiro Teshima, is an alumnus of the vocational school, it was somewhat popular among my friends, which appealed to my trendy side as well.

The key point is that he is a lovable older man pro wrestler!

What to consider when choosing a T-shirt?

It's unique!
It's important that it has a strong presence and is interesting.
Choose something that you come across and feel a strong connection with.
I buy them in the hope that they will serve as a conversation starter.
Before I started hitchhiking I didn't have any T-shirts, but now I have a lot.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

One of the topics.
When I see other people wearing funny T-shirts I feel like making a comment about it, and I want others to make a comment about it too (laughs).

Tomoyuki Maruyama (Front-end engineer)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

It's the T-shirt I wear the most.
I bought it at Graniph , a T-shirt specialty store. It was a limited-time item, a collaboration between the store and an illustrator named YUNO .

I think the delicate touch and colorful colors give it a summery feel.
I've been wearing it for about three years, since I became a lecturer at Monosasu Juku in 2015 .

What to consider when choosing a T-shirt?

Wear what you want to wear.
Something that could become a story.
I didn't wear one today, but my favorite T-shirts are Pop Team Epic and Umaru-chan T-shirts .

Umaru-chan's "Don't do today what you can do tomorrow!" T-shirt

I usually wear Uniqlo or Muji clothes, but when I want to make a statement I wear a printed T-shirt.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

It's like a part of the body.
My criterion for choosing clothes is ease of movement, and T-shirts fit my body best.

Yukari Furuhata (Marketing Department)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

The combination of a comic book-like cat and TOKYO. And it would be funny to wear it in Tokyo. I thought to myself, grinning to myself.
Actually, there was a disappointing point. The collar stretched out after one wash, so I retired it after one season. I couldn't bring myself to throw it away, so I put it away in my closet and took it out today for the first time in a while.

What to consider when choosing a T-shirt?

I fell in love with the T-shirt I wore today at first sight online, but I usually want to see the collar shape and the fit, so I try it on before I buy it. I don't go out of my way to buy it, but I often buy it on impulse if I happen to see it in town.
I used to like buying secondhand T-shirts. It's strange, but I can wear purple or pink T-shirts for some reason. Now that I'm an adult, I like black printed T-shirts on a white background.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

These are everyday clothes that I wear all year round. Before I know it, they're gone, but they're back again.

Makoto Yamauchi (Planner)

What's the point of today's T-shirt?

This is a T-shirt from a ska punk band called Operation Ivy. It's pretty worn out and I haven't worn it in ages, but it's a T-shirt with memories that I can't bring myself to throw away.

In the late 80s and 90s, there was a ska music movement called 3rd wave ska all over the world, and the fusion of punk and ska punk was the trend. Operetion Ivy (hereafter Op Ivy) is a representative ska punk band. Ska punk was very popular in Japan in the 90s and 00s, and I think many of those bands were influenced by them.

I was originally a big fan of a punk band called Rancid , which was later formed by the main members of Op Ivy, and that's how I started listening to Op Ivy. I'd always been intrigued by this exquisitely tacky illustration, and had long wanted a T-shirt of it.

When I was a student, I bought my first PC (a rice ball-shaped iMac) and started using the Internet (it was still dial-up), and this T-shirt was on impulse when I saw it being sold for about $15 on the website of Lookout! Records, a long-established punk label in California that Op Ivy was a member of (which also released early Green Day albums, unfortunately now closed). I also bought a variety of records, including LPs and 7-inch records, and I remember reading the EC page with the help of a dictionary, and nervously entering in the number of my credit card, which I had just issued at the time.

I was so happy when it arrived after a few weeks. They gave me a lot of bonus stickers and promotional albums, so I was really excited. I also got an email from the label saying, "Thank you for coming all the way from Japan to buy it!" That was also nice. That was my first experience with EC (laughs).

I used to go to a lot of shows in my 20s, and I usually wore this T-shirt. When I studied abroad in the US, I spent a year in the countryside of Iowa before going to NY. There was a dirty live music venue there called GABE'S, like something out of a movie, with all the toilet doors missing, where you could see local punk bands live for about $5. I always wore this T-shirt there, and I was the only Japanese person there, but the local punks would often ask me if I liked Op Ivy. I would get bought beer by punks who obviously didn't have money, and we would exchange information about our favorite punk bands. I had a lot of fun doing that. It's one of my memories of America.
I don't wear it anymore, but it's filled with so many memories that I can't throw it away!

By the way, my favorite Operation Ivy song is "Unity"! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7-zRWai5yY

Tips to consider when choosing a T-shirt

This has nothing to do with the Operation Ivy T-shirt, but I've been loving merino wool T-shirts lately! They're so comfortable, they're really good. I want to wear them every day, but they're expensive, so I can't just buy them... Also, I don't like clothes without pockets, so I only wear T-shirts with chest pockets.

What does a T-shirt mean to you?

That's a really difficult question to answer... I'm really struggling with it. But maybe that's how meaningful the clothes are to me. lol

What did you think of the Monosas T-shirt collection?

I want to stand out, but I also want to be inconspicuous, so I bought this shirt to wear while hitchhiking. I also wore a T-shirt of a band I went to many concerts with when I was studying abroad in the US.

This time too, we have put together an album filled with the thoughts and memories of each member.
A person's thoughts and life can be revealed through their T-shirt.
It's just a T-shirt, but it's still a T-shirt.
T-shirts seem to be quite complex.

The heat continues...
It looks like the days when I can't help but call out to the members when I see their T-shirts will continue for a while longer.

Monosus Site Team

How to create good blood circulation with members and other people involved? How can we deepen our relationships to do better work? While thinking about this, we introduce the people and work of Monosus. The secretariat has approximately five members. I love eating a lot.
