This is Harazawa. It's been about a year since I last posted an article on the Monosasu site.
This time, Monosus will be selling "HIKER'S GIN," a gin developed from the perspective of hikers, in collaboration with Toranomon Distillery , operated by Welcome Co., Ltd.
Many people may wonder why Monosus is a gin and a hiker? There is no particular reason for this, but there is no doubt that it was the result of a series of coincidences and connections.
Development History
The work style exploration project that I am in charge of at Monosus is " WORK101 ," commonly known as 101 (ichimaruichi).
At 101, we plan off-site training camps and outdoor training for companies with the aim of improving the way employees work. In the summer of 2020, we started incorporating the idea of ultralight hiking into our activities. Since then, I have been climbing mountains, thinking about the business, talking with my colleagues, and climbing again... and repeating this cycle.
One day while hiking, we got into a lively discussion about whether it would be possible to bring a gin made from local vegetation to the mountains and enjoy it, and whether there was a lightweight container suitable for ultralight hiking.
At the same time, I met Teppei Ichiba, a distiller who makes gin at Toranomon Distillery (he's also a hiker!), and this led to the development of this product.
The first production of this gin is "Lemon and Hassaku," which uses botanical ingredients from pesticide-free lemons from Kamiyama Town and Hassaku oranges from trees that are over 80 years old.
The container is made of a durable polypropylene bottle, and we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with hiker and illustrator Ryosuke Kawado, who is a Triple Crowner (someone who has completed the three major long trails in the United States), to design the label.
Take only what you need, and only as much as you need. Understand the value and meaning of what you take with you. The idea of ultralight hiking gives us great insight into the way we work and live.
I would be delighted if this Hiker's Gin could provide some insight into the way people who pick up and drink it work and live.

To celebrate the release of HIKER'S GIN, we will be holding a launch party at drifter's stand, a travel goods and craft beer store located in Togoshi Ginza. In addition to selling HIKER'S GIN, we will be offering release commemorative items and special food.
