Nice to meet you, I'm Matsuoka. I introduced myself on the Monosasu website in the article " Introducing new members in spring 2022, " so this is my second appearance.
Today, August 4th, we launched a new service called "WOOD STOCK YARD"!
This is a project to find new value in unused lumber stored in the stockyards of lumber companies. Starting today, we will begin selling deadstock lumber on our website.
This project was born when Monosus' representative, Hayashi, met a timber company in Shinkiba, Tokyo in 2019 and learned about the current situation of unused timber lying dormant in a stockyard.
Many lumber companies have large stocks of lumber that is not the standard size, has large knots, or is out of spec for some reason. Wood is a product of nature. It is difficult to treat trees that grow in nature over a long period of time like industrial products, so dead stock lumber that is not available to the general public remains piled up in hardware stores and other places.

We believe that the reason deadstock materials are not utilized is not because they are difficult to handle or have quality issues, but simply because they have not reached the people who want them.
Rather than making things according to standard lumber, we create things inspired by the unique characteristics of wood. If deadstock lumber reaches people with that kind of sensibility, it will become a treasure trove. We also came across deadstock lumber and have made wooden decks, sheds, and other items together with various makers.
If we could share this experience, we could bring more deadstock lumber into the spotlight. And more people could experience the joy of wood that can't be experienced with standard lumber. With this in mind, Woodstock Yard began operating under the slogan "Let's create joy with unused wood."
The wood that Wood Stock Yard deals in is Western Red Cedar, a type of cypress. It is resistant to rot, so it is widely used for roofs and exterior walls in North America, and is characterized by its fine texture and light weight.
Although they no longer meet the standards, it would be a waste to just throw them away, so they have been carefully stored in a stockyard, even though they are rarely used. Why not join us and enjoy wood?

In addition to selling deadstock lumber online, the website also introduces examples of how unused lumber is utilized.
I hope this will be helpful for your DIY ideas.
