Hello, I am Sakuyama, the manager of the quality control department.
This month's MVP is Kanae Funayama from the Quality Control Department.
Monosus' Quality Control Department checks the work produced from a different perspective than the creators to ensure the quality of websites produced not only in Tokyo but also at the satellite office in Kamiyama, Tokushima Prefecture, and at Monosus Thailand (Monotai).
Funayama, who is in his fourth year with the company, is one of the eight members who work here daily as a "checker."
The main reason she was chosen as MVP this time was that she completed the mission during a suddenly scheduled business trip to Thailand and used it to grow as a person.
With the mission of "making the checks go more smoothly and efficiently," they have reconfirmed the rules with Monotai, sorted out various matters that were not yet settled, and made everyone aware of them.
Why did I suddenly decide to go to Thailand?
Recently, Funayama's scope of work has expanded, and he is now in charge of "checking physical projects."
My main job is to check the amount of work to be produced and the progress of production for projects produced in Monotai, while also coordinating resources with domestic projects, but of course I also act as a checker myself.
In addition, my job scope covers everything related to moving a project forward, so I am responsible for a wide range of tasks, such as the rules for requesting checks and preparing commonly used documents.
Although there are communication tools such as Hangouts that allow video conferencing, there are many things that are difficult to communicate or understand between Thailand and Yoyogi due to the physical distance.
Because Funayama knows the situation in Thailand best, there are times when he finds it difficult to speak out strongly, but he wants to make sure that the members checking in Yoyogi are not inconvenienced, and that the production members in Thailand are not put under any strain...these are the thoughts he has that can be seen in his everyday comments.
So I suggested, "Why don't we just meet face to face and make a decisive decision in a short amount of time?" This was the trigger for my business trip to Thailand.
In fact,
"Why don't you go to Thailand?"
"Let's go! Yay!"
So, with just this much interaction, our trip to Thailand was decided in no time, and even though I was the one who proposed it, he agreed so immediately that, to be honest, I got a bit nervous and said, "Let's check with your parents before making a final decision," making me feel uncool...
Her mission in Thailand?
So, preparations for my suddenly scheduled business trip to Thailand (for 5 nights and 6 days, including weekends) were a short-term effort.
We are entering the busy season, so we only have one or two hours at most each day for meetings.
In order to make effective use of our limited time, we started by creating a "meeting list" with the leader and sub-leader of the quality control department, outlining the current issues we are facing and what we would like to ask Thailand to do.
First, the main item
- What to discuss
- What they tell me
- Asking/Confirming
- What to decide
- others
Decide on these, break them down into medium and small items, and finally decide on priorities to complete the process.
It's easy to write about, but after several meetings, the total number of sub-items that was finalized was more than 30. I was a little worried that we might not be able to complete them all, but I made sure to prepare thoroughly in advance so as not to waste this wonderful opportunity.
Towards spectacular growth
Even at this preparation stage, changes in Zhoushan were already visible.
At first, they were a little passive, but gradually they started to take it personally. They thought things through carefully, gave their opinions, and proactively compiled materials.
Then, in a short space of time, you complete your preparations, finalize your schedule at the destination, and set off on your journey. However, no matter how well you prepare, things don't always go as planned once you arrive at the destination. This is because it's the busy season.
Although we could see the on-site meeting times by looking at the calendar, we couldn’t keep an eye on it all the time, so we couldn’t respond in a timely manner to the occasional questions that came up via Chatwork. All we could do was check the progress of the “meeting list” in the daily reports and reports we received at the end of the day.
In the midst of all this, they proactively considered "what can we do now?" and flexibly adjusted priorities to suit the situation on-site. Miyagawa, Director of Monosus Thailand, gave them his stamp of approval, saying "The meeting was perfect."
The content of the report given after returning from the business trip was also very to the point, and the great growth in such a short period of time was remarkable.
Congratulations!
While Funayama was in Thailand, they had a meeting over Hangouts where they could see each other's faces, and Sub-leader Kawaguchi's heart warmed when he saw how well she was doing (laughs).
It required using a completely different way of thinking than I do for my regular work at Yoyogi, so I think it must have been really difficult.
Still, I was very happy that it exceeded my expectations.
He was a capable kid after all!
My colleagues in the quality control department sent me off in high spirits.
Our Monotai colleagues welcomed us despite their busy schedules.
Thanks to everyone, Kanae Funayama has entered a new period of growth!
Comments on receiving MVP award
Thank you, MVP!
I've always wondered what kind of environment and atmosphere the Monotai people, who I usually only interact with through a screen, work in.
I decided to go on a business trip to Thailand immediately, as I thought it would help me to resolve the frustration I was currently feeling.
And above all, I wanted to meet him in person and spend time together in the same space, so when I found out I would be going on a business trip to Thailand, I was so happy and said, "Yay! I did it!"
In fact, everyone at Monotai was really nice to me. I was looking forward to going to work every morning for a few days, and I would jump out of bed before my alarm went off.
I was busy before I went, but I was also busy once I got there.
When preparing the meeting report, there were several times when I felt like compromising, thinking, "I'm tired. Is this enough?" At such times, the presence of the quality control members came to mind. I encouraged myself not to compromise and worked hard so that I could go home with my head held high.
I am truly grateful to the quality control members who welcomed me back when I returned to Japan.
I would also like to thank Monosas for giving me this great opportunity.
Because the quality control department does not have individual projects to handle, it rarely receives the spotlight compared to other departments and is more like a behind-the-scenes supporter.
I'm glad that this MVP has drawn some attention to the Quality Control Department, and I hope it will be a positive inspiration for all the members.Kanae Funayama
